“Not the best Chinese food, tasted better!”
Reviewed August 21, 2011

We wanted a decent meal after visiting the mission at Santa Barbara (the mission is a nice place to visit if you are in the area, worth the stop!), we saw that this restaurant has a decent review, so we decided to give it a try.
The place was empty, so we were a bit skeptical about the quality of the food. We ordered the Mangolian Beef, Pepper Chicken and Chow fun with Black Bean sauce. The food arrived on time, and it was hot, a good sign. The Mangolian Beef was actually quite good and juicy! The chicken dish was average at best and the Chow fun was not good at all. We left with a mixed feeling, wondering if we did not know what to order or the place is just not as good as we read in the other reviews.
The portions were small and $2 for a bowl of rice? A bit pricey for the value. We are not familiar with the area, so this may be the best Chinese food around. It is not bad, but it is not good either.
In summary, it is pricey, small portion, some dishes are quite good, others are average and below.

“Loved the food here”
Reviewed August 16, 2011

Great friendly service, nice small place, great food, reasonable prices-can't ask for more than that. Also, I didn't want my chicken breaded as it was described on the menu and they made the dish with unbreaded chicken for me and didn't act like it was any problem at all like you may encounter at other places. I had General Tso chicken which had a nice kick to it, and my husband had walnut shrimp. Brown rice was a $1 upgrade. The portions were very generous, we even had enough left for lunch the next day. The hotel we stayed at was only about 2 miles away and they never heard of this place since it's off the main drag. They all recommend the places on State Street which are very expensive. Drive a little-it's worth it!

“Try the sesame chicken - best anywhere!”
Reviewed August 11, 2011

My family and I LOVE Chinese food and Szechuan is the only place we go! It's a small family owned restaurant, everything is fresh and delicious - I have probably been here close to 100 times over the years and never had a bad meal - ever. We highly recommend the sesame chicken, it's my husband's favorite thing. My favorite is the hot and sour soup - that's pretty much a staple at every chinese food restaurant but none is as good as it is here. Staff is always friendly.

“Good Chinese In The Golden State”
Reviewed June 27, 2011

The first thing listed on Szechuan Restaurant's extensive lunch combo menu is Kung Pao Chicken. We both got it. We both loved it. It came with a spring roll, a soup of the day, a couple of fried wontons, and fried rice (with brown rice available for a small charge). The meal was properly hot and spicy, and we figured one reason it was so good was because the red peppers were finely diced into the meal. During the lunch we realized we were having the best Kung Pao Chicken we have had in years.
