Description: Surprised not to see this on your web site - many people (myself included) consider it the best Mexican Food in Santa Barbara. Service also excellent, at least when they are not crowded, which the often are! Just down the street from another outstanding (but simpler) Mexican Restaurant, La Super-Rica Taqueria.

“Tasty Food, Service Needs Work”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 31, 2014

A locals favorite, this restaurant doesn't really know what they want to be. The food is good but pricey.....table service price with takeout service. Long lines move quickly, you take a number and wait for the food to be delivered your table. Help yourself to water, soda (for a price, naturally) and salsa. Good chips delivered pretty promptly.

Tourist famous Super Rica is right next door but the food here is as good and probably better.

The service needs working on.....on my last two visits one dish was served promptly while my companion was kept waiting for a considerable time. The seafood fajitas were advertised with 3 tortillas but delivered with two and a request to have two more was met with a request for a additional payment and a delayed delivery by which time most of the food had been eaten with a fork.

Wine and beer available and no outdoor seating.

“Very fresh authentic Mexican food”

Large portions. Easy to share. Fresh rich flavors. Fun funky atmosphere. Order then seat yourself. Small dining area but will work to put tables together for larger groups

“Good but not great!”

We are from Oklahoma, and probably was expecting more of a tex/mex taste. You order at the counter and then take a number and they bring you your food. You get your own drinks. My husband and I ordered chicken enchiladas, they were good and had a different taste than what we usually get from OK. I notice some locals ordered the fish tacos. The guacamole dip was really good. The price is reasonable.

“Fresh and Local”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 16, 2014

Away from the tourist trade crowding State Street is Los Agaves, a pleasant surprise on Milpas, just up the block from that taco stand made famous by Julia Child. You know the one.
Los Agaves is attractively decorated and situated on the corner of Cota and Milpas.
You will find local residents coming in for their fresh fare.
If you have a large party, find a table first and then go up to the counter and order. Your order will be delivered to your table.
My sister enjoyed their generous shrimp salad for lunch and I had a beautifully presented cerviche tostada with sliced avocado on top. You can select your salsas from their salsa bar.
Try the horchata for cool refreshing drink on a warm day. We will go back soon.

“It's time for this restaurant to grow up!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 7, 2014

Los Agaves has excellent fresh, tasty food served in very generous portions at a very fair price. I am recommending it to anyone interested in a good casual mexican meal. Why do I say los Agaves should grow up? The ordering process is what I call fast food style. You line up and order and a server brings your meal. I am not a fan, That style is fine if you have a short menu where people order just a main course. This is NOT fast food. This is top shelf quality food and we wanted an appetizer. Problem - long ordering line. So I ordered both our appetizer and our main courses at the same time, Eventhough I made it clear that was what we were doing all our food came at about the same time. So, Los Agaves - Grow up. Realize you are not a fast food restaurant anymore. Realize you are a sit down quality eatery and act like one.
