“Very good food”
Reviewed January 16, 2013

For a brief while the food at the China Pavillion was not as good as during passed years, but we have been there several times during the past few months and the meals are as good as ever. Last evening everything we ordered was really delicious. I am so glad they "are back" because it was the only decent Chinese restaurant in town.

“Yum cha in Santa Barbara on a Sunday”
Reviewed December 14, 2012

Great restaurant near downtown SB with a yum cha menu on Sundays and a relaxing environment to enjoy your lunch. Reasonably priced and the food was as good as any in town. Carpark right next door, which is free for the first 75mins, (a standard feature of all downtown carparks in SB). Been back to the Pavillion again since out first visit and would recommend it to anyone looking for the right place to eat Chinese cuisine. Check out the website before you get there.

“A little below average...”
Reviewed December 6, 2012

My BF and I stopped by here for lunch while driving to San Diego from San Francisco. Based on the reviews, we gave it a try. It was during lunch time on a Monday and it wasn't that busy. It took awhile to get seated and get our drinks.

The lunch menu was small but had a lot of variety. Lunch items come with soup, salad, rice and an entree. The soup came out first and then followed by the salad. The egg drop soup was bland but the hot and sour was quite tasty. The salad had a piece of hair mixed in with the lettuce. I asked for a fresh salad and there was no apology or acknowledgement of the strand of hair. They did bring out another salad.

We ordered the curry chicken and the kung pao beef. The kung pao beef was average and a little on the greasy side. Once I tasted the curry chicken, I regreted ordering it. The chicken was fatty and the curry was also greasy. The taste was bland and flat.

I wouldn't recommend this establishment. The service and food were lackluster. There are plenty of other restaurants in the area to go to.

“It may not be China, but it is very good.”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Another review noted that CP is not a match for the food in Hong Kong or NY's Chinatown. True, it's not Shanghai, but it actually measures just a notch below NY's Chinatown (which is now about a block or two - the one in Queens being bigger and better for foraging). We found the quality high and a quick scan of other diners found the same for them. We spent about $30 apiece with tax for dinner on 3 dishes and some appetizers, and the flavors were fresh and distinct.

I had dinner there with a friend last night. The food was great and the waiter was friendly and attentive. Parking is very convenient. I would definitely go back.
