... for a wonderful view of Goleta and Santa Barbara. This is a great hike in the morning. It's an approximately 1600 ft climb, paved at the trailhead then rough ground for the rest. Uneven grounds. Be sure you wear good shoes that grip well. Start your morning with a good hike, then reward yourself with a great lunch on State Street or a scoop of ice-cream from McConnell's.

There are some great hiking trails at MIssion Canyon in Santa Barbara. We started near the water treatment plant where half of the trail is paved as it winds up and around the mountain. The rest of the trails are rocky terrain with some overgrown bushes and lots of wildflowers. We packed sandwiches and ate a picnic lunch among the rocks strewn along the way.

You definitely need hiking shoes to navigate Jesusita Trail. The hike to Inspiration Point is a very steep climb with loose rocks along the way and isn't for the faint of heart. The rewards are spectacular views of Goleta and Santa Barbara as far as the eye can see!

Parking is the biggest drawback in the area. The trail is at the top of a residential street (San Roque Road) with very little parking. We added a quarter of a mile to our hike just walking from our car to the beginning of the trail.

Easy access to a pleasant hike which you can take a little way or go on up to Inspiration Point. (about three miles from western trailhead on San Roque Road)

You're sharing this trail with mountain bikers, some of whom have no manners when it comes to "right-of-way." Lots of deep ruts (after the rains, especially), thanks to bikers and no trail (or low trail) maintenance. It used to be nicer.
