Absolutely lovely place to stay , we stayed here for 2 nights during our west coast road trip . The Franciscan has a warm inviting homely feel to it , the staff are all very helpful , the rooms are great - (some previous reviews have called them dated but I personally prefer something with a bit of charm rather than a bog standard hotel room ) and the breakfasts were lovely , homemade pastries , muffins etc . We also made use of the hot tub and pool which were both spotlessly clean .
Location wise , it is only a short walk to the seafront and State Street so couldn't be better . Thank you very much for a lovely stay :)

Room Tip: We stayed in the managers suite , it was the only room left available so we had to upgrade to this...

My husband, myself, and our 2 travelling companions, were on a road trip from San Francisco to LA. We wanted to take our time to see the country on the way and decided to have a one-night stop-over in Santa Barbara. Because we were spending a total of 5 weeks in Canada and the US, we didn't want to spend a lot of money on accommodation, however, we didn't want to slum it either!

According to the reviews on tripadvisor, the Franciscan Inn sounded just right. My husband was a little dubious because the rate wasn't expensive, and we were all pleasantly surprised that we could find such a gem at a great price!

The bed was very comfy, the bathroom large, and the room had a mini kitchen - more than adequate for a reasonably stay of a week or so. There was also an enticing pool area which we unfortunately didn't have time to enjoy on this occasion.

We arrived quite late in the afternoon so we quickly settled into our rooms and then took a lovely walk down to the pier. I really loved this experience and only wished we had a few days to fully explore this beautiful city. The guy at the Franciscan recommended the Brewhouse for dinner so we walked there from the pier and then it was a very short walk back to the hotel. Dinner was excellent with excellent service - a great recommendation so thank you! (My husband tried the chilli beer - very interesting!)

The next morning we had to leave quite early, however, not without enjoying the great breakfast provided in the reception foyer.

Such a lovely, warm and inviting place to stay - all the staff at the Franciscan should give themselves a pat on the back! I highly recommend staying here!

We were wanting to stay in a hotel in Santa Barbara, and we were concerned that we would not get the experience we were looking for at a motel-hotel. The location made us take the chance, and we were pleasantly suprised. Our balcony room was a little dated, but very spacious, nice and clean.
The grounds were lush and well manicured, there were two nice pools as well as a large fountain by our room.. We were in California for 10 days, and this was the best complimentary breakfast that we had on the trip. The staff were very pleasant and friendly, the atmosphere comfortably upscale; the lobby with a fireplace is a plus.
The town is split into two parts; the lower part with the pier and beach and the old downtown-shopping section. The Franciscan is close to the pier. It's about 1.5 miles to the downtown area. In the beach area, this is a great location. It is a nice marina neighborhood, with good restuarants. We recommend the nearby wine-tasting walking tour.

Room Tip: Get a bungalow or balcony room.

This hotel had some good value-- close to the harbor, nice grounds and pretty pool. Breakfast was OK but choice was to eat on your lap in a living room sort of space or take back to your room. I was disappointed with the size of the queen room (for the price) with very little space besides the bed. Soft bed. Free parking. This was our first trip to Santa Barbara, so cannot compare it to other places.

Room Tip: The web page pictures and brochure feature the suites, so don't be surprised that the other choi...

We first booked a room at the Franciscan Inn four years ago and enjoyed our stay. So when we found ourself driving through again just last month (August) we decided why stay anywhere else? We found the main lobby still inviting with warm cookies to tempt us in the afternoon. The breakfast had a classy touch with the same pleasant woman to greet us. Offered were croissants, coffee, hard boiled eggs, cheese and cereal. Certainly a pleasant start to the day.
Room was average size but comfortable, very clean and nicely appointed. Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood with a few other Inns. Good location- Walking distance to the beach and restaurants right around the corner. Santa Barbara and The Franciscan Inn have a lot to offer-Enjoy!

Have traveled from West to East coasts and abroad. Found this location to be great for the price. The grounds are well kept and nicely landscaped for this area. Parking is free. (even understand there is 24 hr security... Which never felt was needed.).

The king-sized room we occupied was impeccable -- and updated to reflect an Inn decor. Flooring/plumbing/electrical upgrades. There was also a DVD player in the room (non-Blu ray). We happen to have DVDs with us.). Also free wifi.

The Continental (not full) breakfast they serve -- also free was served by the delightful Carol. Who is a warm-genuine friendly hostess each a.m. who serves the coffee and other quick delights.

Beach is a five minute walk away.

Prices was great. Will return

Room Tip: Also had heated pool --- and jacuzzi. Both in quiet settings.

My family and I had two suites at the Franciscan Inn for three days. We Enjoyed it because we were in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara, which meant we could walk or take the tram from the Inn to the beach or Restaurants. and they had coin operating laundery facilities. This was important since we just came off of a 5 day drive down the coast.
