This is obviously a makeover of an old motel but by looking at the rooms you would never be able to tell..updated and rainfall shower. It was really convenient to dowtown restaurants. Only stayed for a night so we werent able to use the complimentary bike rental. Rooms great, very very clean!

Thank you for your review and choosing to stay with us at the Presidio. During the remodel, we sought to provide our guests with a refreshed and comfortable environment that they could call home for one or as many days as they needed on vacation. We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed the remodeled rooms and the complimentary bike rental. Please come visit us again and we wish you the very best.
Regards,
Laura

Just a few minutes walk away from the State street stores, we found this great motel, which is a bit more of a boutique motel. According to the owner it was recently renovated and it felt like it. The room was very clean, specious and very modern, the staff was very welcoming and helpful.
The hotel also gives the guests free bike to tour the place, which was another great thing.

Great stay- definitly recomended.

After a long days driving we just wanted a clean bed for 2 nights. This Motel exceeded our expectations. The welcome from Laura and Aran was friendly and helpful. The rooms are a generous size with big bathrooms. Room decor is funky and way more modern than you expected from the outside. Plenty of natural light, clean and tidy. Comfy beds, good shower, parking right outside rooms. We didn't use the free bikes as enjoyed the stroll into the restaurants and shops, and there is a bus stop just across road anyway. Can get some road noise in rooms but not too bad and nothing unexpected given you are on a main road. Had the best lamb shanks in my life at Blush Restaurant. Laura and Aran gave us excellent advice about a couple of tricky highway changes we had ahead of us on the drive to Barstow and Vegas - invaluable advice!! This Motel really was an unexpected gem.

Room Tip: Rooms further from road offer a bit less road noise.

This motel was revamped into a sort of boutique hotel, so the furnishings, linens, beds, etc., are great. The price was right, and it was only a few blocks from the good restaurants (Bouchon, Olio e Limon, Carlitos). But, it was a hefty 25-30 minute walk to reach the end of State Street. The motel is located at the North end of downtown, across the street from a Days Inn that also looked like a fine place to stay. If you want to be in the heart of downtown, you might want to stay at the Holiday Inn Express or the Canary (a Kimpton hotel). But if you don't mind the walk, the Presidio is wonderful.

Thank you for your kind review. We completed the remodel recently and are so glad that you liked it! We are also glad that you liked our location - being so close to the shops and restaurants is definitely a great benefit. Although the walk down to the beach may take awhile, you do get a chance to enjoy all of State Street on your way down. Plus, we welcome all of our guests to use our free beach cruisers for a speedier ride! Thanks again for your review and we hope to see you again soon.

My husband and I have traveled all over the country and stayed at a variety of hotels. We are your average american couple so we are not talking $500> per night hotels but you know Hyatts, Hiltons, Marriots places like that. We look for clean and safe places. Never do we look at "motels", but in this particular case our options were limited not because of a lack of establishments but because of a lack of thought process. We were there because we had a loved one in the hospital, unexpectedly. It was late and we didn't want to have to search for a place and we knew it had to be close in case we needed to come back right away. A nurse at Cottage Hospital Santa Barbara recommended this place and said this is where she stayed when relocating for the job. It is nothing fancy BUT it is clean, safe and the staff (managers) were absolutely amazing. They were compassionate and incredibly hospitable. You can tell they take a lot of pride in the place and it shows. Like I said nothing fancy and the pictures do tell what you can expect. Except one was probably old because the reception area does not look like one of the pictures. It is located at the end of the infamous State Street, touristy area. But if you continue North on state street you will get into the locals area with regular shopping, groceries and restaurants. If you go south you are in touristy Santa Barbara, shopping restaurants and night life (we used in the area). Cottage Hospital is a five minute drive. As I said earlier, clean and safe but nothing fancy. If you want to stay, lets say "IN" Manhattan, without paying Manhattan prices this would be the place to stay. Great weekend getaway. We will definitely be back!!

Room Tip: When we go back we would definitely pick a room upstairs as far away from the stairs as possible, fo...

First of all, I would come again to Presidio Motel. The rooms are clean and there is everything you need. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Also very nice are the free bikes. But you can rent them only until 7pm. The only issue is the shower. The possition of the showerhead is on the ceiling in the middle. If you don't want to wash your hair you have to bring a shower cap.
The breakfast are coffee, tea and muffins.
The Motel is located close to downtown. Walking distance is about 15 minutes. With bikes only 5 minutes. To the beach about 10 minutes with bikes.
As I stayed in Presidio Motel before, I was a little disappointed because they renovated the rooms and replaced the furniture and all the nice paintings and details i really liked so much. Before it was more unique. But I can recommend to stay in this Motel.
