Arrived pretty late to SB. Ala Mar looked like the kind of motel that can sometimes surprise on the upside. Well, it didn't.

In need of major refurb, and cleaning! The kind of place where you do not want to touch the floor barefooted

I stayed here for a couple of nights and got a good deal (not way is it worth the full price that is advertised via the various booking sights) by just turning up. Was given a room in the back alley which seems to be a 'back up room' as certainly doesn't resemble the pictures of the other rooms. The main downside, other than it being somewhat shabby and in need of modernisation-tiles missing in the bathroom etc, was the the room was incredibly hot.

The plus side is that for the location this was a good deal compared to the cost of other places in Santa Barbara

Room Tip: make sure you don't get one of the rooms located in the back alley

This motel is in need of a huge remodel. Pictures online are nothing like the rooms they have. When we checked in and went to our room we were scared. The bed was so old that when you laid on it the springs all creaked with each little movement. We asked to see a different room and the second at least had newer beds. The rooms have no telephones. Our room did not have any where to hang up clothing. The motel is in such a good location that we were so disappointed in the condition. The continental breakfast is a joke. Coffee was cold and you have to be one of the first ones to get a glass of orange juice. The food is prepackaged old danishes. Definitely would not stay there again. For as much as they charge nightly they have money to remodel. Also, they do not have enough parking for the amount of rooms they have. If you get back to motel and there are no spots you have to try and find parking on the street that starts charging after a certain time in the morning.

Spent the day in Santa Barbara and did not want to leave. I saw the vacancy sign in front of Ala Mar Motel and ran across the street from the beach to ask for the price of a room for one night, Armando, at the reception desk, was so sweet and accommodating. He said he could have a really nice room ready for us in just a few minutes for $109.00 since they were slow that Sunday. Our room was perfect. Second floor facing the ocean (room 119). We had no one on either side of us and the property did not get that busy. Room was nothing fancy but clean, quiet, and we loved our view. They had coffee and danish is the office for breakfast and the location was unbeatable!!! Great patio area to see the beach activities. I love motels where you get to park your car just steps away from your room!!!!

This is a nice little motel. Location is the best thing about this place. It is right across the street from the wharf. it is also less than a block from the trolley that takes you up State Street to all of the restaraunts and shops. This motel also has a sun deck that is a nice place to sit and look out over the water. It's a great place to catch a sunrise or to have a little quiet time early in the morning.

It is a "no frills" budget motel. Our room was clean and comfortable. King size bed. Our room had two bath tubs. One in the bathroom and a jacuzzi tub near the bed. The towels are the cheapest quality. Small and kind of scratchy.

The breakfast was simply a cup of juice and/or coffee and a individually wrapped pastry like you get at a gas station qwik mart. The parking lot is very small... We were afraidd to move our car thinking we might not have a space when we returned.

All and all it was a good experience considering the price and we will repeat the next time we sneak away to Santa Barbara. Staying there leaves a few more dollars in our pocket for shopping.

Wonderful view on the beach, but the rest is literally depressing expecially the "so called" continental breakfast, never seen anything so sad.
The rooms are just ok, not really clean and badly furnished with old and broken furnitures.
Anyway acceptable for a one day stop over in Santa Barbara, for longer staying i would suggest other places.

We stayed for one night and had a 2 queens. Located directly on the pier and beside much more expensive hotels. Parking is free. Nice rooms with artificial fire place. Forget the breakfast. Wasn't good. But nobody will beat 99 USD + tax in this location.
