We stayed here for 5 days in May for our babymoon, in a wonderful luxury deluxe suite, thanks to an upgrade from the manager Jim. We got a good rate on a travelzoo special. The room and service were wonderful. We enjoyed having the continental breakfast delivered to our room many days at no additional cost, and the valet parking was very convenient, especially as I was on activity restriction in my pregnancy. We enjoyed the feeling of pampered luxury these services added to our stay, and of course our room was a treat- 2 TV's, fireplace viewable from bedroom and living room, huge marble bathroom with whirlpool tub. Very comfortable bed. The pool was heated to the absolute perfect temperature. My husband enjoyed the gym. The location was great with several good restaurants within easy walking distance, we especially liked the Montecito Grill in the hotel and a nice mexican restaurant across the street. It was an easy drive to Santa Barbara proper, and we enjoyed the quiet relaxed atmosphere in Montecito. Some friends stayed in a standard room for a couple days of our stay and they enjoyed their stay as well. The continental breakfast is served in the Montecito grill, and we joined them there while they were staying at the hotel. Not a huge a selection but more than adequate, with nice quality bakery pastries, bananas, cereal and milk, juice, coffee and tea, bagels and cream cheese, etc... We would definitely stay here again.

Quaint, small hotel with small but sumptuously furnished rooms and reception area. Good location close to the beach but not directly on it. Lovely fresh linens and very clean with cute complimentary toiletries and water in the room. Staff were very polite and helpful. As it was located above a busy road there was some traffic noise and the pool is tiny. However we were loaned some great retro bikes for free and biked along the boardwalk for breakfast. There are several really great restaurants very close by as well as ATM and petrol station if you are travelling.

Stayed here for a weekend (part of a group of rooms reserved for a wedding), and after overbooking the rest of the hotel, were upgraded to "the apartment." It is a wonderful room - two bedrooms, two baths, multiple flat screen tv's, a patio.

Long story short, the afternoon after our first night, we were notified that we would be charged $XXX for "noise violations," with the manager saying that "multiple notifications" had been given to us that night. Basically, lies. We received no notification, no messages left via voicemail, and no one came to the room to ask us to quiet down. If at any point, we had actually received the message, we would have gladly obliged. Basically, we think it was a way for them to recoup some of the $ that they lost in upgrading us to the suite.

Dear Guests and Friends of the Inn,

I feel compelled to respond to the review submitted by norcaltrojan on August 16, 2010. We naturally appreciate most any feedback, as we continually strive to offer a product and service that is constantly improving and fulfilling the desires and expectations of each and every one of our Guests. It is unfortunate, though, when someone uses a good forum such as this to mislead travelers who are only looking for genuine reviews so that they can make an informed decision as to where to stay and visit.

The individual in the review asserts that no notification was given and that no one came to the room to request that the noise level of their party be reduced. He further contests that if a request had, in fact, been made, then he would have surely complied. The room, however, was indeed called two times, and our night duty front desk agent went to the room and spoke to an individual claiming to be in charge of the group on two separate occasions, after several other Guests checked out in the middle of the night because the noise level was not adjusting. The following day, I spoke to the individual in charge (who, apparently, authored this review), myself, and informed him that much like a smoking fee, we would be charging him for noise violations, to which he was at that moment agreeable. I then spoke to the head of the wedding group (in a different room) to request that this not happen again, and she was extremely apologetic for the behavior of this individual and his friends, and agreed that the charge seemed appropriate, especially considering the hotel was generous enough to upgrade them at no charge to our most elegant room so as to help make their special weekend even better.

It is certainly disappointing that someone would take the time to compose such a disingenuous review. I will say, though, that behavior like this is not typical of our Guests, and I imagine our Guests know the Staff and Management well enough to disregard this review. For our future Guests, however, we thought our response would help clear the air so that you may feel comfortable including us in your travel plans. We continue to look forward to serving all of the fine people who choose to spend their special moments with us.

Sincerely,

Danny Copus
President / General Manager

Freedom from noise. Freedom from hype. Freedom from the overactive thought process. There was a peace in the nostalgia of this hotel. The quaint town of Montecito, which is marked by a timeless sophistication and contemporary charm, is within a breathtaking stroll of Chaplin's early century hotel. The staff was so attentive and full of knowledge! The beauty of the interiors welcomed me. The charm of the old "OTIS" elevator brought a smile to my face and the room enveloped me completely. The charm began with the actual 'old style key" and the evening housekeeping call to "turn down the bed". I enjoyed a wonderful evening in the lovely spa grounds as I could admire the architecture of the hotel. I then woke to an awesome view! With Santa Barbara within a few miles, I was free to tour. The wharf, wine tasting, delicious lunch... and so much more. The early morning walk to "Butterfly Beach" was the icing on the cupcake.... Its a beautiful stretch of coast that allowed me to breathe easier! The convenience of many shops and businesses within reach, including in room spa services, was so appreciated!

Really pretty hotel/inn in a great location. Any and all staff encountered were cheerful, helpful, and professional. Historic building with lots of charm, and our room was spacious, so imagine my dismay when we sat on the bed and heard the "sprong" of the mattress springs. And we are of average height and weight, but these mattresses were in serious need of upgrading and prevented a good night's sleep. Too bad, because everything else was perfect.

I booked 1 night here through Travelzoo deal and almost cancelled after reading negative reviews. Sooo glad that I didn't as it was a beautiful hotel and I'm so happy that my family had the chance to check it out!
Some of the negatives are true- it's very noisy and the bathrooms are small. But the stained glass, bouganvillea-draped balcony, old elevator, friendly staff and clean and comfortable room and bath overcame the drawbacks!
In fact, our room was upgraded upon arriving and we had 2 queen beds and 2 bathrooms for myself, hubby and 2 boys. We were in town just to check out UCSB and I regret that we didn't see the pool area but we did use the small gym and it was great!
I will stay here again and just bring earplugs to sleep with. Normally I would write off a place this noisy but I'm telling you, there is a charm and beauty here that I've never experienced elsewhere. Try it!
