The Upham is a great hotel in a super location. The room we had was a little tired and the bathroom had hairs from previous guests which was a bit off putting. We didn't manage to put off the light on the balcony or block it out of the room. The air conditioning was noisy. The staff were lovely and the place had the look of the historical landmark that it is. Breakfast was fine.

I am actually here for a meeting. The facilities are great and the staff are amazing. I am now imagining coming back here to visit for pure vacation and enjoy the ambience of the Upham. Be sure to wake up for the free substantial breakfast in the morning. Between 4 and 7 pm, help yourself to wine, cheese and crackers. And before you take off for slumber land, enjoy the milk and cookies to help you sleep. All in all a great experience.

We arrived at the upham early and we were tod that our room was already for us, the hotel is charming and is very colonial, we stayed in the hibiscus and we loved it, it is a short walk away from state street which is the main shopping area, there was wine and cheese laid on late afternoon and breakfast was a good variety, would definitely recommend this hotel

My husband and I have stayed up The Upham at least 3 times now over the past 5 years and thought that I would mention that the service and hospiltality has never waivered. It is always perfect. The hotel has a very stylish charm but manages to still feel like home from home. The beds are always comfortable and sumptious. We stayed in the master suite in September 2012 and it was beautiful especially the bathroom. I cannot recall what rooms we have stayed in before but they are all very nice.
We love the cheese and biscuits which are served with wine in the afternoon and late evening is Oreo's and hot milk....yummy. The gardens are well maintained and full of flowers. The only thing I dislike is that the seating for breakfast. There never seems to be enough seating if you hit breakfast at 08:30-09:00.
The hotel is pretty central for the shops, parking can be tight though if the hotel is full tho. The restaurant is pricey so we normally eat in one of the many restaurants in the town.

The Upham has a great location and the grounds were lovely. Our cottage room was plenty big and private, it didn't really feel like a hotel or a B&B. The mattress, however, was sub-par and the bathroom antiquated. There are no hooks and one small towel rack, immediately over the toilet, for the entire room, and no exhaust fan. The breakfast and tea time was functional/average -- definitely more hotel than B&B in that regard. It's nice enough, but showing its age. A weak 4 stars.

Room Tip: #29 (Queen) is more secluded and shady than some.

We stayed at the Upham Hotel for our honeymoon and loved it so much we extend our stay here. The staff are extremely friendly and no request is to big or small. The food if absolutely out of this world. It is a must for everyone to stay here. Really looking forward to get back to stay in the future.

This is a nice enough B&B, but sadly we didn't find it as fabulous as some of the other reviewers.

Positive features: Good beds, quilts, and linens. The grounds are pretty with lawns and little patios and many seating areas. The continental breakfast was nice enough to get us started for the day. The location is very good and convenient. We love staying in downtown Santa Barbara because we can walk to endless restaurants, the art museum, shops, and a beautiful park.

Disappointing: The rooms are average size and the furniture is not pretty. The bathrooms are very outdated with plain fixtures, white tiles, aging grout. Room security was nonexistent: the bolt didn't work and the only lock was a button on the doorknob (and no in-room safe). The unimpressive wine and cheese reception consisted of generic wines in open carafes (perhaps from a box?) plus a tub of yellow cheese spread and crackers.

It's a nice atmosphere and good enough rooms, I suppose ... but next time we want to stay downtown, we'll probably go back to Inn of the Spanish Garden, which has larger spiffier rooms and beautiful modern bathrooms.

Room Tip: We booked a king junior suite, which was not exactly huge -- but it had a seating area and was far l...
