As an Upham return guest, it was a pleasure to rest and relax with Upham's competent and customer focused staff. Our expectations for comfort and laid-back service were more than fulfilled.
Since Louie's is one of our favorite SB restaurants, the convenient location adjoining the Upham only enhances its appeal and allure. The vintage inspired courtyard with its Adirondack chairs and flowered covered gazebo will put any traveler at ease.

My husband and I stayed here for one night. The room was very comfy and quaint. It's located within walking distance to the downtown shops and restaurants and the waterfront. The continental breakfast was yummy - and sitting in their beautiful gardens while eating was very relaxing. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed here for our 1 year anniversary. The staff was awesome and very personable! Our room was quaint and perfect for our stay! They had a beautiful garden/sitting area to spend time sipping tea, coffee, or wine. We had a lively stay. We would definitely stay here again!

Nice hotel with a great restaurant (Louie's), in a convenient area in Santa Barbara. It's a bit of a drive to the beach, but much more quiet and relaxing than those closer to the water. It's also a bit old, but they are updating it and it was quite comfortable for us.

Just stayed for one night coming down from San Francisco. Booked through own website. Beware because they charge the rate on your credit card 72hrs before arrival date. Rate was high but if you look at similar hotels in the area it is around the same level.
Chose The Upham after reading reviews on TA and not finding rooms at other hotels.
Reception is in the main building and staff are very welcoming. Nicely kept grounds and gardens. It was a pity that it wasn't sunny.
Room was large as well as bathroom. Bed was King and very comfortable. Nice desk area and space for luggage. The only drawback was that we stayed in the Lincoln building and had to take stairs to our room with large suitcases (no one asked or offered to help at the reception but it was ok). Breakfast is included and has good variety of options, but no hot options (bacon or scrambled eggs).
Located very close to State Street with many shops and restaurants.
I was very satisfied with the stay and will recommend.

My wife and I got married in Santa Barbara last year and stayed in one of the garden cottages for our wedding and honeymoon, so it was great to come back this April and stay here again (sorry it's taken me so long to getting around to writing this review). The Upham is a wonderful, friendly hotel a million miles away from the faceless chain hotels dotted around the place; it's quiet, with a pretty, secluded garden out back, yet it's only two blocks from State Street, so you easily walk to the shops or some of the best restaurants in Santa Barbara (which are clustered around this end of State Street - Downey's, Jane, Bouchon, Olio e Limone, they're all less than ten minutes away on foot).

We had a room in the main building this time, a very spacious room on the first floor at the corner of the building. It had a comfortable couch with coffee table and there was a desk at one side of the room; we had a "room picnic" one night with a splendid bottle of local wine (a Daniel Gehrs carignane) and some snacks from Ralph's; great fun!

The staff are all friendly and helpful, especially Elizabeth, who helped us out so much with our wedding booking last year. This is our third straight year at the Upham and I can't think that we'd ever want to stay anywhere else in Santa Barbara - the rooms are great, the location is ideal, and the garden is a great place to sit and read a book in the evening sun with a glass of wine in hand (the hotel lays out free cheese and biscuits, wine and cookies in the evening).

Thank you all at the Upham; we'll be back soon I hope.

My Wife and I stayed here for the night. It's a little further up town but still close to shops and things to do. The grounds are well kept and very nice. The room we stayed in was pretty good. A bit dated and plain. The bed was extremely comfortable and cozy. Personally, i think its a bit pricy for the room conditions. We spent 350 for the night and for 350 i have been in some really plush rooms elsewhere. From the pics i have seen of the place online i guess i was expecting a little more for the price. The people that work there are very friendly and the continental breakfast was sufficient. If you have a large SUV forget about parking in their lot. It's really only for small cars and it gets packed in. We had to park offsite. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice place and our overall stay was good, but I think our next stay in Santa Barbara will be down closer to the beach.
