We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the Simpson House on our 3 day stay. In all our travels we have never encountered a staff that exuded the warmth and charm that has been assembled here. Meeting all your needs is just the beginning. The way you are greeted and accomodated go beyond what most staffs are trained to do. Most encounters with them led to an interesting, genuine conversation filled with laughter and honesty. The breakfasts, hors de ouvres and beverages were all outstanding. The grounds are lovingly cared for (apparently by the owners themselves) and the rooms were more than adequate. We give it an unqualified recommendation.

Beautiful well maintained "B & B" in the heart of Santa Barbara. Try one of the cottages on the property with their own fireplaces and great privacy. Walk to any of the local restaurants. Enjoy splendid breakfasts and meet a few other guests, only if you so choose. A great getaway!

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights while traveling the coast of CA for our anniversary. The inn lived up to everything said about it by other travelers and more! We stayed in the Garden Room and it was lovely. Although it was a bit small, the charm made up for the size. The gardens were beautiful! I spent one afternoon just sitting in the garden reading a book. It was very peaceful. The breakfasts were delicious and the service was outstanding. We were met in the driveway when we arrived and someone immediately began unloading our bags while another staff member showed us around the property. They saved hors d'oeuvres and wine for us since we arrived a little late. It was cool in the evening and I enjoyed the hot chocolate they brought to our room. The "no tipping" policy was a welcomed change. Gillean and Sharon were both so helpful in directing us to places. We used the bikes one day to ride along the beach. It is located just a couple blocks off the shopping and restaurant area in a very quiet, beautiful neighborhood. I'm so glad we didn't stay down by the beach, which was very crowded and noisy. Everything was perfect, can't wait to go back!

My husband and I stayed here for five nights and our experience was mixed. Our experience was mixed. The location was great, near the down town, but in a quiet location in Santa Barbara. The grounds were well groomed and the morning breakfasts were more than we could really eat. We do not care for the sweet type breakfast and they did tend to serve sweet things. Our loft suite offered a full kitchen and we preferred to cook our own breakfast and did so 1/2 of the time. The afternoon wine/appetizers were fine, but not a lot of flavor, but the atmosphere was nice. I would agree that the staff was pleasant but they did seem rushed and somewhat stiff. We did extend a few days, but mostly because of Santa Barbara and wanting to see more than our original plans allowed.
Now on to the one bedroom loft suite. The space was fine and having the kitchen was great. We like to brew our own coffee blend that we carry during our travels and as mentioned we cooked and relaxed at our own pace. The bathroom was small, but we survived. We enjoyed the wood burning fireplace and the mornings and evenings were cool, so we took advantage of the fireplace each day. We did have issue with the cleanliness of the space. The living room furniture had furniture covers and they needed a good cleaning. They were full of dust, most likely dander and dust mites. Whenever we sat on either the love seat or overstuffed chair, the dust flew. They should consider a good shaking of these covers (which could be removed, we checked) or better yet.... a good dry cleaning. The floors were also dusty around the edges. We had the sniffles while in the suite because of the dust. The "so called" private patio was not private at all. First, it was very small, was cluttered and unkept, had a small fountain, but right behind the small table/chairs was the water heater for the suite next door. It had broken slats and you could see the water heater and it was always making noise, and then when you looked up, there was a window for the suite next door that allowed those guests to just peek down into your patio. The space is not worth enjoying, the table/chairs very uncomfortable and we did not use this space at all. We would not even open the door to allow the fresh air into the suite because of the window above. Whoever was above in the room would be able to see into our living room area. The other window in the living room area looked out over their small nursery space, with cluttered pots, and I assume an area where they grew plants. This was not enjoyable to look out at, so it took away from the overall enjoyment of the space. The garden was wonderful and we did enjoy sitting outside our room, enjoying wine we purchased at some of the local wineries. I would strongly suggest that if you go to Santa Barbara, see about the 2 1/2 hour tour of Lotusland. It is a wonderful garden tour, but reservations are necessary. We happen to luck out because they had just reopened for the season and came during the off season timeframe. If you enjoy wine, the local wineries are something to consider and they do ship. The botanical garden is also another place to enjoy and hike. We are learning photography and Santa Barbara allows a person to practice taking photos.
Overall, would we go back? Maybe? If they would take the time to deep clean more often instead of surface clean, we might. The experience was not horrible, but for the amount that one pays to stay there, they should be able to clean better. If we did consider going back and we felt that they were cleaner, then we would recommend the bed and breakfast, but if not, we would not.....

My husband and I stayed at Simpson House Inn for our honeymoon and we had an amazing time! The service was amazing and the food outstanding. The staff was very attentive and friendly and made our stay something that we'll always remember. Nick had great restaurant suggestions and took amazing pictures of us after our wedding. Definitely order late night popcorn while watching one of the hundreds of movies available. We hope to go back again and again.

In looking at the AAA Guide Book for Santa Barbara, we were taken by the photo of the Simpson House, the highest star rating, and the historic element of it.

We booked, via telephone, our room, and we were treated with wonderful care, and after much discussion, picked the Greenwich Cottage.

Due to a conflict in work schedule, we arrived at night, much later than anticipated, yet, the person came out immediately with a smile, and retrieved our luggage as we checked in.

We were excorted to our private cottage which is separate from the main house, and there was a fountain in the courtyard, along with actual firewood against the cottage. Upon entering the cottage there were compimentary refreshments (it was our anniversary), our name was on the entrance door, and it was very exciting to say the least. The room was beautiful, highly romantic. A large jacuzzi was nestled by a window. The ample bed was placed near the jacuzzi. In front of the bed was a small but ample seating area to warm yourself by the fire, that you can build, or request the staff to do so. There is a separate walk-in shower area, which there is built in soap, shampoo and conditioner dispenser built in to the shower area. The shower area is very ample for two people.

The cottage has it's own courtyard, private walkway, and is very secluded.

Since we arrived late at night, we needed dinner, and the host was very gracious to give us directions, within a short walk, to a marvelous restaturant for some outstanding italian food, and one of the finest bottles of white wine (CakeBread Winery) we have ever had.

Upon returning, we have a beautiful glowing fire. We settled in for the night, and the entire experience was of complete pampering. We we told before turning in that there would be a complimentary breakfast the next morning. Upon inquirying, we found out we could request to have our breakfast to be place underneath an arbor which was placed in the nearby grounds surrrounding the main house. (At night, there is food/wine pairings in the main house).

The next day we had a wonderful breakfast, including hot chocolate, underneath the arbor. We received a complimentary newspaper, and we were so sad that are time was coming to a close.

At that time we were charged approximately $500.00 for the cottage, an all time high for us, however, the entire experience was well worth the money.

The location of the Simpson House could not have been better. Secluded, yet suround by multi-million dollar stand-out Victorians, then just down the street local merchants.

The House is centrally located to everything, and a wonderful retreat/respite from a very hectic world.

If you want to pay less money, the main house has several rooms at a lesser cost. There are, I believe, two additional cottages which are off from the main house, but not sure as to their ambiance/cost, so it is best to check out their website directly.
