We didn't have a vehicle, but we walked this several days. We were able to go when the farmers market was going and it was really nice. Picked up some good items.

We visited State Street Saturday night and found it enjoyable and lively. Then on Sunday we strolled State Street at a different pace, window shopped, visited some other stores, bought items. It was a really fun street full of shops and restaurants to check out.

One can while away a lot of time on this 'main st' in downtown Santa Barbara. After eating, shopping (Macy's to nice local stores) to art, food (American, Italian, Wine food, Indian and more) walk to Stearn's Wharf on the waterfront passing the Reagan Centre and the Amtrak station along the way.

Lots of shops, restaurants, and clubs, great architecture, and good people-watching opportunities. It's interesting to watch the change in atmosphere from morning, evening, and late night.

Not too many great stores. But if you like to eat, this is a good place to go pig out and drink. A lot of homeless and beggers. Not a great place for kids.
