Great place to buy gifts and to see and feel the atmosphere! My husband and I walked around for a couple of hours, rented bikes and had great time!

Unlike other downtowns which are best visited at night, this is to be visited in day time for best time. The whole area is constructed in spanish architecture. The buildings are absolutely amazing... and there is this red tile walking tour which shows you all the old and interesting places.
The countryhouse is pretty cool to visit offering 360 view of the city.

Do NOT miss this if you are in SB.

Note: At night time, interestingly it is not much buzz and there are a lot of homeless people.

Good food, interesting shops, an alive and vital downtown area that caters to tourists and visitors, but you will see a lot of college students too.

State Street is ok to visit on foot or by fifty-cent trolley ride. It is good for restaurants and people watching. Most of the shops are all commercial chain stores. HOWEVER, if the street is closed to vehicles for a Farmers'/Artists' Market, then State Street is transformed. The vendors are regional farmers and artists. I stay at a place with a kitchen so I stock up on fresh produce. The Market makes State St a special place worth the visit.
