Great dog beach and short hike to an off leash area with great views! Not crowded and nice area for pups to run free and explore.

Our dog loved the off-leash area on the south side. The waves were gentle so she wasn't afraid to trot in the shallow water. Lots of beach to explore.

This beach is wonderful to visit, and I've walked it both directions for quite a ways to get a solid feel for it over the past few months. This is a dog-friendly beach with "on leash" one direction and "off leash" in the other. I have not met an unfriendly or unruly dog there yet. While we don't have a dog I have noticed that there is a dog-washing station to clean your pawed pal at the end of a day romping in the surf, and the beach itself is very clean because the dog owners clean up after themselves well. This is an easy spot for beginning water sports - boogie boarding and light surfing are easy, and depending on the tide there are tide pools that are easy to explore. There is natural seepage of tar here and the level of it comes and goes, so I recommend water shoes. If you do go barefoot, some baby oil wipes do the job of getting the goop off. I've heard some people say that they have trouble getting it out of their hair, but I've found that a heavy conditioner combed through does a world of wonders. Lots of beach glass to find along this stretch of beach! Have fun!

When I need a walk on the beach, whether I'm looking for sea glass or need to clear my head, I drive down to Hendry's Beach which is also known as Arroyo Burro Beach. A great place to take the kids for fun and play or your dog for a walk. Just before sunset you can have a drink at The Boathouse. You can see that there are many options at this beach.

Definitely hike up to the peak, you will be rewarded with an amazing view of the coast. Wear a hat and sunglasses, there is exposure.
