“Small enough”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

Just small enough to cruise through, and enough local info to get some feel for "old Santa Barbara". Old Adobe walls keep the place so naturally cool. Great place to take children for an hour or so.

“Great little museum, especially for kids.”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

Large collection of stuffed birds and many native displays.
there are birds that have been rescued and are displayed close up with their handlers-a barn owl and an American kestrel were fascinating ; however, this display is poorly organized and one has to stire up management to get it going. No one seemed to know when or where the bird display would take place.
No cafe.

“Beautiful grounds, interesting exhibits on local natural history”
Reviewed May 5, 2013

This is a fun experience for kids and adults alike. The outside of the museum is almost as interesting as the inside. Stunning oak woodland with a creek running through. Tons of birds, squirrels, chipmunks, all seemingly oblivious to humans. Inside there are many exhibitions on marine life, paleontology, birds, mammals, insects and the local Chumash Indians. All well done, but definitely a bit dated. The bird hall is a mixture of old and new exhibits and is quite stunning and interesting. If you visit the Santa Barbara Mission, this is just behind it, so easy to do both in one day.

“This Museum is the Best”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

I took my grandchildren during Spring break. We were there for 4 hours and they still didn't want to leave. The new addition in the back with the water and rocks is a kids paradise.

“Smells musty”
Reviewed April 4, 2013

The owl exhibit was fantastic. The property is amazing, don't miss the outside area. Inside smells musty. But, what can you expect, the animals are dead! The stuffed bird area is one of the best.
Take the family and see what they are attracted to in this sprawling museum. This place is a great educational tool for young and old.
