“Fascinating”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

This museum is beautiful. It is small and always has interesting, if not very special exhibits. Don't miss this. Can do this on same day as you do the Botanical Gardens. Plan on 1-2 hours to see it all. You will pass the Santa Barbara Cathedral as you make your way up there. This is another place to stop and take a look!

“Unexpected and wonderful.”
Reviewed December 24, 2012

With plenty of exposure to the Smithsonian's and NYC's Museums of Natural History, we expected one in Santa Barbara to be blah at best. Instead, inch for inch, it is great. Yes, it is more modest in size and doesn't even try to cover all things in Nature. But what it does cover is done exceptionally well with especially terrific shore bird, sea life and woodland displays. If you actually like natural history content, like to learn new facts, or need to expose kids to the non-plastic world, then you will not regret time spent here. An unexpected jewel of a place.

“Very enjoyable and educational museum”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

Anyone interested in Natural History will have a very worthwhile 2 or 3 hours in this museum. As a visitor from the UK I found the display of American birds particularly interesting, but all the displays were of good quality. Like Jean M, I much enjoyed learning about the Chumash.

“Natural history museum at its best”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

Went to this museum to explore natural history. We arrived early but was not disappointed. We took the opportunity to enjoy the natural surrounding of the museum, the skeletal remains of a huge blue whale and the wonderful winter weather.

The museum opened promptly per the advertised time and we thoroughly enjoyed all the exhibits. Must see includes the birds, insects, planetarium and also the Indian history.

Go visit the museum shop too. There is something for everyone back home.

“Good for the Kids”
Reviewed December 10, 2012

We were there during the dinosaur and butterfly exhibits. Very nice additions to the museum, and the kids (teenagers) really liked it. Don't forget to take a walk across the bridge and along the paths.
