I'm puzzled by reviewers that thought this was a sketchy location. Gypsy Den is in the Santa Ana Arts District. It's worth a drive to cruise the neighborhood just for the history and incredible architecture. You can tell this is an up and coming hipster hangout, much like the burgeoning arts culture in DTLA's former financial district. Give it 5 years, and this will be a major destination for restaurants, high end wine bistros and coffee hangouts.
The food at Gypsy Den is pretty good, the Mexican Mocha being the highlight. Dark chocolate, cinnamon and a hint of chili mixed with espresso and steamed milk made for an amazing breakfast wake up call. The server was super nice and brought out a special homemade herb dressing for our fries. It was delicious.
This is an excellent place to hang out and just be. The gypsy vibe works as a theme without being unintentionally kitschy. It would be a great spot for readers like myself.
