Description: A modern local is a new concept that is in a sense, the evolution of a gastropub. A culinary-centric, Public House that celebrates it's "local." Whether it's the seasonal, local, farm-to-table sourcing of our ingredients, the history of the local area, or the local resident that feels their sense of ownership here; Chapter One: the modern local is a product of its ideals and creative style as well as its community and local history. We are humble servants to our guests. Our commitment is to treat every guest like family and ensure that you feel the heart of the pub every time you walk in the door. No pretension, just good food and drink and great company.

Chapter One is a gastropub that generally hits the mark with tasty meals, but not everything is perfect. We went after a wedding on a Saturday at the nearby Old Orange County Courthouse. We had a party of 10 with 2 teenagers and adults in their 60s. After a round of champagne for the adults, we ordered calamari and mac and cheese to share with the table. The mac and cheese has been a signature dish since we first came 18 months ago and we would recommend it (for those who are not lactose intolerant). A great mix with multiple cheeses. The calamari was a bit chewy so I would pass on that. Happy campers at the table ordered the fish and chips (awesome shoestring fries!), a grilled portobello with risotto (subtle flavors mixed well), and grilled chicken in a Moroccan/indian spiced sandwich with lentils (which have always been good here). I ordered the Yakisoba stir fry and it was fresh but not something to recommend. The Moscow Mules are a must for the ginger lovers, but you may need to share with a friend as they are pretty stiff drinks. Service was very good although they were a bit distracted as there were models doing a photo shoot while we were dining.

My husband had dinner here with a friend and loved it !!! So we went with the kids on a Saturday night. Traffic moves slowly in Santa Ana and it seemed extra crowed which made us all grumpy being in traffic. Be sure to have your quarters to park as there are spaces on the street to park or you can park in the nearby structures instead.
This place is dark which I don't mind but the kids weren't to fond of the darkness. We all ordered the hamburger ! The meat was good and juicy the pork belly was not our thing ( pork belly was in the center of the burger) the bun was slightly sweet which we did not like as well. The fries tasted so strong of the duck oil they are fried in. My husband got the steak salad which he said was fine. I think I would go back again but not as a family dinner. Their menu had all kinds of events like happy hour and special deal for every night of the week. The menu changes I think as my husband wanted us to get the burger her ordered the last time he came which he said was cheaper and better. The waitress was friendly but service was just average

Steak salad was not tender. Smoked salmon was the best. Great for tapas and wine. Co-workers loved the variety of drinks, especially the beers!

Get the Drew's cucumber as a drink! A little bit dark in the restaurant but overall good food! I would recommend this place for sure.
