Except of the parking problem mentioned by the previous poster (however, lots of signs read that day-parking is not permitted when crossing the border, instead lots of other parking lots are available for this purpose, starting at 7 dollar per day, so I wonder how one could be surprised that the car is towed), this center has more than 100 outlet shops with very good shopping possibilities and prices. Very clean and mostly friendly atmosphere.

San Ysidro outlet center has lots of high-end outlet stores, some of which I have seen only rarely or never before. Please check their website for the current store listing. It is well-landscaped and maintained, open-air and very clean. There are no obvious security guards here, which can be a little unnerving with Tijuana having the problems that it is, but in all my visits, I have never seen any people who didn't look like they were there to shop. Access is very easy and the center is much bigger than you realize when you first get started. Pay attention to the freeway signs! The center is located on the NO-KIDDING last exit in the USA. If you miss it, you have to turn around in Mexico or deal with border police, etc etc. Take extra precaution to not get carjacked or broken into. Remember where you are!

After having spent our Saturday in San Diego, my friends and I decided to spend our Sunday afternoon by visiting Tijuana and the San Diego Factory Outlet in San Ysidro, just at the Mexican border. I had been to the outlet center just a month earlier but I wanted my friends from Sweden to see it also, since the large number of stores offers a great variety of clothes, shoes, and all the other products you expect to find at a major outlet mall. We decided to park our car at the outlet, but before shopping, we wanted to make a quick visit to Tijuana. Three hours later, back on the American side of the border we were all tired and hungry, and after all: peaseful shopping at an outlet mall is a nicer experience than being constantly "attacked" by the streetvendors in Tijuana. On our way, from the bus that took us back over the border, to IHOP, we noticed that our car was gone! Was it stolen? No, on this peaseful Easter day afternoon, it had been towed away to Chula Vista. With great empathy for the peculiar situation, the young lady in one of the parking kiosks directed us to the security office of the outlet center."We have you all on videotape: you left the property and went to over to Mexico. If you leave the property we have to tow your vehicle away!" was the explanation for our car being towed away from the outlet center.Instead of happily spending a few hundred dollars on shopping at the San Diego Outlet Center, we left the towing company in Chula Vista, two hours later, hungry and $230 poorer after taxi fares and towing fees. It would take something really special for me to ever visit the San Diego Outlet in San Ysidro again. I warmly recommend the big outlet mall in Banning, just west of Palm Springs, a mall with a somewhat nicer attitude.Enjoy your trip!Erik J
