My wife and I recently stayed for one night as a stop over between San Francisco and LA. We had an ocean view room and it was very pleasant relaxing by the fire place in the room whilst the sun set over the pacific. Good clean coin laundry, small but adequate fitness centre and friendly, good value restaurant. Visted Hearst Castle the following morning which was a bonus as we had not really planned to do so.

this is simply a great value for a clean, comfortable, convenient hotel with the added attractions of being situated directly on the coast (pits at night, walks along the beach in the morning,) having a friendly staff, useful amenities (laundry room, gym, internet kiosk) and an onsite restaurant that doesn't look very promising but that in fact served a surprisingly good salmon salad. only carp is that, unlike most other best westerns, breakfast is not included in the room rate.

a word about the location - we chose this hotel in part because it was only ~5 minutes away from hearst castle, which was our first stop the next morning. this made it very convenient for us, but it should be noted that this hotel isn't really near anywhere else - there is a somewhat scary convenience store across the highway, next door to a bleak looking restaurant at a bleak motel. if you are looking for a hotel in the middle of a town, you would probably do better booking somewhere in cambria (but know that this will put you farther from hearst castle.) if not, best to stock up on anything you might need en route before you get here (this includes gas, if you are headed up the coast on highway 1.)

We stayed at the BW as it was close to the Hearst Castle and on the beach. We thought it would be a nice place to stay, but it was so more more. The rooms were big and comfortable, with large patios to view the ocean (complete with binoculars!). The bed was extremely comfortable, cozy fireplace which we didn't use as we were sitting around the fire pits at night after our walk on the beach! Hot tub was fabulous!
The restaurant was really great! The staff were all dressed so nice and so courteous~~the food was excellent and all at a reasonable price. We wished we were staying longer than just one night at the Cavalier.

We stayed for 1 night at this motel in May 2009, whilst travelling between San Francisco and LA. The motel is located in a strip of motels along Highway 1 and has a restaurant attached which was reasonably priced. It is also conveniently located for Hearst Castle. The rooms were spacious and clean, with a mini-bar, safe and good-sized bathroom. The best things about this motel were the 3 firepits set along the coastline which were lit about 7pm and provided for a great evening chatting with other travellers. There is also free internet in the lobby. I would stay here again if i needed a stopover whilst travelling along the Pacific Coast Highway.

My wife and I stumbled onto this wonderfully relaxing hotel property as we were on our way to Hurst Castle. We, ourselves, have pets so we were quickly aware of the "pet frienly" policy of the hotel (something we'll take advantage of at a later date). We wanted someplace very close to the ocean at a reasonible price... we found it! It's close to Cambria, Hurst Castle, and a short drive to Monterey, as well as many other attractions.

As we were talking to other guests around the fireplace each night, we found that many of the guests have been here before. They return season after season as they've fallen in love with this place, just as we also did. We'll return again when we need a restful place to stay.

My boyfriend and I came here for two nights one weekend and we absolutely loved it. We got an "ocean view" room on the first floor, and our room opened out onto a cute and open patio where we could sit on the lounge chairs and look directly at the ocean with nothing blocking it. In front of us stretched a huge lawn that ended at a bluff overlooking the ocean - from there you could easily climb the stairs down to the sandy part of the beach. It was absolutely gorgeous!! They also have fire pits on the bluffs and we had an amazing time sitting out there at night star-gazing. All the other people staying here were very normal and quiet and pleasant (no riff raff - ha ha). Our room was large with a huge sliding glass door from which we could enjoy the view. There was also a fireplace in the room. Our room was clean and quiet and the beds were very comfortable. Room service was great, and they have an adjoining restaurant that was really good too. All in all our stay here was perfect and it is highly recommended. One word of warning: it can get VERT windy here at times, so be sure to bring windbreakers - we did and they were life savers.
