Just off Highway 1 on the ocean side, book an ocean view room if possible, comfy armchairs to sit by the fire if it is a little chilly, patio chairs to sit and watch the ocean. Restaurant on site which was good, but closes at 9pm so make sure you are seated before then as they are strict on closing time. Room has tea/coffee facilities in a small kitchen area, with fridge etc. Good value for money as well as a fabulous location. Staff very helpful and welcoming.

Room Tip: Ocean view room is worth any exrtra cost.

We stayed here for one night on our way (road trip) from San Francisco to Los Angeles. The hotel was the midpoint and was conveniently located on Cabrillo Highway, so we didn't have to take any detour or turns inside any town. The hotel offered free onsite parking, so we didn't have to worry about leaving luggage in the car far from hotel. The hotel exterior and layout looked like a typical highway motel, but we changed our mind once we entered the rooms. Since we were 3 adults, we got 2 rooms on the upper level. So we had to carry our heavy bags upstairs ourselves (no elevator) on stairs. The rooms were very clean and had an in-suite safe to keep our sensitive belongings such as passports. Unfortunately the hotel doesn't offer ocean view double rooms.

The surrounding area was like a short strip of hotels and shops (on highway), but all were closed by evening (restaurants close by 9 pm). So basically the area is dead and nothing to do at night except enjoy the beautiful scenery of the ocean. The nearest town with some (limited) nightlife was 45 minutes away (by car). Overall, San Simeon was very quiet and limited with attractions except for the beautiful scenery that was the only attraction. There was a castle as the main touristic attraction in town, but we are not interested in historic attractions.

The hotel had 3 fireplaces where we sat and socialized with other guests. It was fun to warm up on cool nights. The people there were all stopping over from a long road trip, so it was fun socializing with other guests and hearing their stories and sharing plans and experiences. There was no cellular network coverage from T-mobile, so it was lifesaver to get free wifi connection in the rooms to still feel connected to the world. But the connection was very weak in one of the rooms. The restaurant closed at 9:00 pm, so we had to rush for dinner as it was our only option there.

The scenery in the morning was breathtaking being on the ocean front. But there was no clean beach for us to go swimming in the ocean. The hotel though had a temperature-controlled outdoor pools and jaccuzi, but we opted not to swim in a pool while next to the ocean.

We will definitely stay in same hotel again if we go in another road trip from LA to SF. For those seeking hot romantic experience (on their way) then they definitely should stay in this hotel probably for more than one night.

I trusted the reviewers on this one & it paid off . Just a wonderful place with a beautiful view & attractive room. We stayed in the area called "The Terrace" . The staff so friendly & accommodating even sending over a bottle of bubbly knowing it was our 50th anniversary. We ate several meals at the Inns restaurant & food was excellent. A total package!

Room Tip: Ocean view in The Terrace section.

Stayed in this hotel on my drive down CA1 hwy. The hotel is located near Hearst Castle. The room which me and my wife stayed in was spacious and had a great view of the ocean! The restaurant serves tasty meal and the whole stay was enjoyable. At night, the fireplace at the beachfront is lighted up and the whole atmosphere is very romantic!

We celebrated our honeymoon here while traveling in California in April, champagne was waiting for us in our sea view room with a real fire place which was stocked with everything we needed to have a nice cozy fire at night. The bed was very comfortable, everything we would need was right in the room. The staff was fantastic in all areas of service we encountered! They even light fire pits in the afternoon to stay warm and watch the sunset with other guests. The only negitive thing was the coffee in the rooms was much better than in the resturant, I'm a coffee drinker and I even heard the same comment for another guest.
We ate at the little Mexican restarant just up the street from the hotel that was very good also. If I came back again this is where we will stay again!!

What a magical and unexpected surprise this stay was! The friendliest staff in the world. No room service charge AND great food, are you kidding me? A hot jacuzzi and a warm pool overlooking the water? Really?!? And if I had wanted, I could have brought my doggie to run amidst the green lush lawn overlooking this oceanfront beauty of a hotel??? I must have died and gone to heaven. I even found a whale rib bone on my beautiful jog down the coastline (no, I didn't take it home - it was heavy). Hard to believe I came here to view Hearts Castle. The Cavalier was spectacular. I will return here every year.

Room Tip: If you have a doggie, get an oceanfront bottom floor room and let them live the good life!

From the moment we arrived we had wonderful service. We were happily surprised how close we were to the crashing waves. We enjoyed sitting next to the fireplace in our room with the sliding glass doors open and listening and looking out at the ocean. Very relaxing. At check-in the staff asked if we were celebrating anything. It was our anniversary so they sent a complimentary bottle of champagne! That was a nice touch.
