“Nice, if a little dated”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2013

Took a short family trip up the coast to see the Elephant Seals and Hearst Castle in the middle of the week. Hotel staff were friendly on check-in, though we were charged an additional fee for an upgrade to a room with a fireplace (hotel was nearly empty, middle of the week). Room was clean and well kept up, if a little on the dated side. Nice view of the ocean from our room. I liked that the windows opened and we were able to let the sound of the ocean lull us to sleep. Beds were comfortable with soft linens.

Breakfast in the morning was pretty basic, but ok. The coffee and tea station was a little disappointing, as the water to make tea and the coffee itself were both cold by the evening hours -- if you boast this as an amenity, it should be replenished throughout the day.

The pool area looked very welcoming and like it was well maintained, as did the rest of the hotel. The location is great. I have stayed at other properties in this area, and I would say that The Morgan is definitely above average for what you can expect to find on this stretch of coast!

Well located between Cambria and Hearst Castle. Low on amenities but good size rooms, very comfortable mattresses, fireplaces in every room and muted Autumn colors. No work out room but an indoor heated pool, no hot tub. Simple but ample continental breakfast was included. We decided to pamper ourselves with massages after a very long drive and were rewarded with excellent ones. The hotel was close to many good restaurants, hiking paths, Hearst Castle and the elephant seals. This is a good inn for families. As it does not look out over the ocean, not a romantic getaway. They also welcome pets happily and we were delighted to get a large plate of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and cold milk before bed!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Morgan. The interior of the hotel is styled based on the Hearst Castle, although much more modest. The rooms are large, comfortable and very nicely decorated. The breakfast was a standard type of continental breakfast, juice, coffee, sweet rolls, various cereals and fresh fruit, but the seating area was a cut above looking over the swimming pool and lobby. The hotel is a bit isolated, so there are only 2 restaurants nearby. We enjoyed a walk on the beach with two fire pits with a roaring fire.

Room Tip: The hotel is split into two separate buildings with a restaurant in between. The front desk advised...

Found a deal on Living Social for this hotel. The deluxe queen room is very comfortable. We are upstairs and the room seems a little warm, but that is a good excuse to open the windows and listen to the ocean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. For $25.00 more a night per dog, I can come back with my dogs.

I'm visiting this hotel with a friend and it is lovely! We are in the second part, down the way, and the room is nice with a fire place and a beautiful view out the window. I wish the pillows were higher quality, but the mattress is comfortable. The bathroom is nice and spacious and we have four bath sized towels! Usually, there are only three. I don't know why hotels only put three, but I'm happy there are four here! Nice architecture and art throughout the building as well. I will be back with my dog as they are pet friendly, too.

This hotel is very well located for Hearst Castle and heading along the Pacific Coast. It is cosy with spacious and comfortable rooms. The fireplace was a great bonus in the middle of December. The breakfast was good and staff were friendly and helpful.

Similar to some of the reviewers on this hotel I bought a deal from one of the social network sites. The hotel is easy to find, it's near restaurants and within walking distance to the beach. We enjoyed our stay at the Morgan and the staff were nice. It's too bad that the hotel is located near Hwy 1 instead of the beach which means there's no view. The room was clean and nicely decorated with a fire place. I didn't realize the hotel is named after Julia Morgan, the designer/architect of Hearst Castle. Our deal include free breakfast and it's the very basic breakfast. There's a heated swimming pool and it faces the parking lot and the lobby.

I think the atmosphere at the hotel is more suitable for business than a romantic getaway for couples.
