A very nice hotel (motel) in San Simeon just 3 miles from Hearst Castle. The room was nicely furnished and comfortable. We were given a Handicap room and the bathroom sink is very cramped and not a good design with its location and ease of use. We looked at a "normal" room and the bathroom was fine. They serve a nice continental breakfast and they have a heated pool. The staff was very friendly

Described as a boutique hotel, this facility suffers from less than minimum housekeeping , less than acceptable maintenance and a complete failure to take advantage of a spectacular location with great potential. No elevator in a 2 story north annex; flies and carcasses of flies that have tenant rights and an overall poor experience.

For an overnight stay this hotel was satisfactory although we could of spent a lot less and had equal accommodation. The rooms were reasonably large, clean and comfortable. Upon our arrival in the late afternoon, the reception staff were not particularly knowledgeable about dining options within walking distance of the hotel. We were told we had an ocean view room but the windows were so dirty with salt spray you couldn't see out. We stayed in late August and there was heat coming from the fire which we couldn't turn off so we had to open windows to get some fresh air. The complimentary breakfast was only just suitable and we had to ask staff to clean a table before we could sit down. Considering the price, we expected more.

The hotel was slightly dated, but the only thing I could really fault in our room was the air con was more an old fan system in the wall, but it did keep the room cooler than if it wasn't there.
The king size bed was extremely comfortable and the black out blinds did keep the room lovely and dark which was great having a 6 month old with us.
They put a pack and play (playpen) in our room at no extra cost and this was great for the baby, but we were on the first floor (no lift) so couldn't take our pram (stroller) into the room. They did offer to move us but for the sake of one night did not seem worth it.
Bathroom was lovely, huge bath and lovely walk in shower with extra spray attachments on it.
The pool was lovely and warm, great for our baby who loves the water.
Breakfast the next morning was fine for us, and could take extra croissants/bagels with you for the day.
Staff were very pleasant to us.
Would we stay here again, yes I think we probably would.

This was our last proper hotel on our 5 week tour of the US and thought we would stay somewhere fancier than the Days Inns and Super 8's we had been staying in.
The hotel is easy enough to find, right next to the PCH, but the appearance of the hotel leaves something to be desired, the place looks like it needs a serious tidy up and lick of paint. We had booked a deluxe room as the website states that standard rooms don't have an ocean view, we assumed this meant they faced the road and didn't want this, plus we wanted a fire! When we got to our room it was facing the road and was very loud, my boyfriend immediately went downstairs to change our room as it was unacceptable for us, he came back to tell me that the receptionist had said there were no rooms available on the other side of the hotel (even though the car park was empty) but for $40 we could upgrade to the other building, he agreed.
We arrived at the other building which I wasn't very pleased about as I had read reviews on here, and got to our room which was a standard 2 queen room, a downgrade from what we had, obviously not acceptable for MORE money. I went to reception as I was annoyed that they had given us that room as an upgrade, the woman on reception was rude whilst the young guy gave us key for a new room. This was room 301 in the second building, we found this acceptable.
The room itself was nothing better than any days inn or super 8 we had stayed in, we found it dated and nothing special. Putting a $25 bottle of wine for purchase in a room does not make up for shoddy maintenance and a bathroom that smells like a caravan. Once in the room I used the free wifi to check the prices of the rooms on the hotels own website and was shocked to find that there was only $10 difference between our deluxe king and the deluxe queen queen we were now in. As it was late by this point we decided to deal with it in the morning.
Inthemornng both my boyfriend and I went to check out and spoke to Geoff (or Jeff) who asked how everything was, we explained what had happened and he apologised profusely (something no one did the day before) and agreed to charge us $10 instead of the $40 quoted the day before. In essence if it wasn't for him this place would get 1/2 stars.

I'd like to say I'd stay here again but for 3 times the prices of a Days Inn ill probably stay there instead.

We booked this hotel because we had early morning tickets to tour Hearst Castle. If our tour was later in the day, we would have stayed in a nicer hotel

The hotel is dated. When we checked in, we were given a key to the room. It has to be 25 years since I stayed at a hotel that did not use key cards. If that was not bad enough, our room number was on they key tag and easily visible to others. Management needs to be educated about the risks of having guests room numbers visible.

We were given probably the worst room that I have had in years. We were staying there for such a short time, it was not worth asking to be moved.

There were stains on the floor and the bathroom sink needed to be refinished.

There were issues with the wifi and cable. There is some type of issue with their cable line in the building, because most of the TV channels were staticky. The wifi did not work. I am using the wifi at another hotel now to write this review and and am not having issues with it. More importantly, the wifi was not secure. To sign on, all you had to do was agree to some nonsensical agreement that you will hold them harmless if you get a worm or virus on your computer.

Breakfast was a joke. First of all, it did not open until 7:30. Secondly, the selection was very limited.

When you first walk into the hotel, you will see a sign that says it is a Tripadvisor top rated hotel. It's clearly not.
