Ragged Point Inn and Resort
Ranked #1 of 1 San Simeon B&B and Inns
Reviewed January 28, 2013

We spent a wonderful weekend at Ragged Point and found the service staff to be gracious and accommodating and the grounds lovely! We had no difficulty getting responses to our needs and the options of espresso bar, restaurant, snack bar (the sandwiches are huge) and mini mart met all our needs. We were attending a wedding there, and the wedding planner was terrific. However, what gets this place gold stars all around for us is the layout of the rooms (nearly all have an ocean view), the spectacular coastline, and the access to hiking and great walks. For a mid-January get-away, it couldn't be beat. We'll go back again!

Room Tip: Rooms numbered in the 20's are a single floor and not only have ocean and sunset views, but smal...

First -- our visit last week was 2 months after my solo visit to the nearby Lucia Lodge -- and I must say that for a slightly lower price (about $170), Ragged Point is an *amazing value* compared with that competitor.

Ragged Point has a number of buildings well off of Highway 1, with spacious grounds, immaculate landscaping, fabulous flowers, views that could knock your eye out, plus a hiking trail down to sea level. It's got quality, peace and privacy that the very roadside Lucia Lodge does not have.

Ragged Point also has sturdy updated construction with rooms that have privacy, deadbolt locks and clean windows (all of which were missing at Lucia Lodge).

The room we got was decorated in a spare, elegant way that was super serene. With a practical foyer and entry table, the room was heated by a gas fireplace and there were a very comfy bed, full bath with hairdryer, an enclosed deck right out the sliding glass door -- and the deck furniture was heavy and high quality. The privacy was superb.

My only negative about the grounds was the all-night use of exterior lights that hampered slightly the astonishing view of the stars thru the night. I wonder if mgmt can see a way to soften that impact. Also I wonder if management has looked into adding solar and batteries to minimize the need for that big generator which hummed all night. Perfection is in reach!

The dining room was wonderful -- loved the two meals of our brief stay and the staff was particularly helpful. We took the cliffwalk trail down to the sea -- a fairly risky trail for which folks need a bit of experience and decent shoes -- and it was a glorious up-close view of the land. There was a water fall bouncing down the gorge at the bottom.

We loved out visit.

Nice place but the pluming was not as good, the toilet plugged up and because they don,t maintain it the tolit kept running and flooded the etire bathe room. we called they came and udes a plunger and unpluged the clog, they gave us the keys to another room to shower in and the toilet in this room wouldn,t stop running either. you might think that a place that charges $300 a night would use $20 of it and fix the toilets!

We enjoyed our one night in this hotel because of the beautiful environ. The restaurant is average but the sunset was spectacular. It was fair price because it was off season. But my neck hurt the next day.

This was a VERY average motel that you might have run accross in the 70s. The location of the property is beautiful on a bluff overlooking the Pacific but it's a shame the hotel itself and restaurant fail to live up to the surroundings. Our room was just OK - we had a two double room with a roll away and we were all the way at one end of the wings. The room was tight and pretty dated. We were not in the more exclusive rooms so maybe those are better. The decor didn't look like it had been changed since the motel was built - I'm guessing the 60s or 70s. The restaurant was very disappointing - everybody's food came overcooked. Check in and check out are at a sort of office/gift shop that may or may not be staffed at the time you arrive or depart. I think I would head on down to Cambria and give this tired motel a pass.

Room Tip: Maybe the highest category rooms are good, but the rest are tired and dated.

Recently spent a couple of days at the Ragged Point and enjoyed it immensely. Gorgeous location close to seal beach, Hearst Castle and wonderful hiking. There is a short, but steep hike behind the property that I highly recommend. The entire property is self contained with restaurants, coffee shops and other amenities right there. The food was wonderful.

The rooms are dated, however. We stayed in the two-story motelish structure which had indoor-outdoor carpeting in the room and a pretty beat up bathroom. Once we stepped onto our back porch and saw the view, that ceased to be too important. Good value for the price.
