We took this tour on a Saturday morning. Very informative albeit long, walk is scenic and worthwhile if you love taking pictures. We'd highly recommend it!

“Glad we lucked into this tour!”
Reviewed November 13, 2013

Was about to book our Hearst Castle tour and my husband realized that we could take this tour at 10 am instead. It was well worth the time! Not only are the volunteers a wealth of information about the light house & its history but also well versed about the local flora/fauna & wildlife. At $10 you can't go wrong!

“The Best $10 Tour You Will Ever Get”
Reviewed November 2, 2013

A 2 Hour tour for $10. Comprehensive and impressive. This place was off limits when I went to Cal Poly in the 70's. I always wanted to see it and 30 years later, I finally did. In the off season the group was small, but, all the better. Only tuesday, thursday, and saturday. Meet at the former Piedras Blancas motel about 2 miles north on highway 1 at 945 am. GO!

“Piedras Blancas Lighthouse - Night Tour”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

Built in the mid-1870s, currently under restoration and management by the BLM, we were fortunate to get the last available reservations for a night tour (offered only two times a year) on Oct. 19th. Docents in period dress reenact life as it would have been. We arrived later than our appointed time, but were allowed to join the next group (tours leave every 15 mins.)
On the night tour you see the lighthouse, water tower, fog signal building, oil house as well as the grounds.
On a clear night, the sunset would have been spectacular, but it was cloudy and the sun disappeared without its usual Central Coast amazing show.
The sea lions just offshore present an ever-present audio/visual circus; the harbor seals and the cormorants - a bit more restrained.
And most wonderful of all, the elephant seal laying on the beach, frolicking in the waters.
It was well worth the $15 pp, but dress warmly. The wind is sharply cold.

“A place everyone should stop and visit”
Reviewed October 27, 2013

This is a great place to visit. Follow what the website says about visitor hours. You must meet at the abandoned Motel for ticketing at 10:00 am Saturday and from there you caravan back to the locked lighthouse gates for entry. The tour guide Abel and his wife Toni were fantastic. They were extremly knowledgeable about the area and passionate in the presentation. Our tour lasted 2 1/2 hours and was really informative. This is a tour everyone should take. Just make sure to bring a good jacket because the fog and wind do make for a cold visit.
