The beach is fabulous, and I loved staying at the very funky old PB Motel. If you like this area, do a search for the Grade B horror flick, "The Monster of Piedras Blancas." Hilarious now, scary in 1960!

We traveled California with our 2 kids ages 17 and 12. I told them we were going to visit a special place where elephant seals like to hang and they both rolled their eyes. Upon arrival, they were mesmerized at how huge they were many of them were pilled up on the beach. They spent 25 minutes taking pictures and admiring these seldomly seen creatures. Definitely worth the stop.

Kind of cool to see and 150 year old lighthouse even though it is being remodeled so the top section is gone. I believe there is one tour a day at 9:30am, otherwise it is about 500 yards from highway and you can't get close to see it. The actually lens is in the town of Cambria on display.

This is a fantastic stop anytime. It is right off the highway, there is a sign directing you to the best viewing for that day and it is free. There are always seals so never a disappointment due to no show. My whole family loved it. Make sure to take a sweater or jacket when you get out. It always seems to be cool and windy.

We visited the place in December. I didn't know anything about Piedras Blancas. We drove from Monterey to LA. We saw the vista sign and many cars parking near the beach. The parking was large. We were surprised to see many elephant seals on the beach. Most seals were big. We stayed there about one hour. It was a fantastic vista along scenic CA Hwy 1. A must.
