“A lifelong favorite”
Reviewed March 10, 2014

I would make day trips just to come out here. Beautiful virtually all year round, this place is serene and hidden. Not a touristy trap. You can spend hours out here, and I haven't even completed the trails. You just have to see it for yourself and experience the nature.

“Best around”
Reviewed February 5, 2014

You can not have a bad day once you arrive here. The peace and the sounds of nature. Sat had our lunch, hiked along the bluff, walked the pier and by then all bad thoughts had disappeared.

“Wonderful bluff hike and beach walk”
Reviewed December 30, 2013

We were delighted to find a hike on the bluff through trees and various micro climates. Lovely ocean views and wildlife viewing.
The walk down the beach at low tide was not crowded but we encountered several off leash dogs. Not all of them were under control. That is our only negative experience of the location - otherwise it was marvelous!

“William Randolph Hearst Memorial Beach”
Reviewed November 12, 2013

Great place to stop after a long drive from Los Angeles. Large parking lot with restroom facilities. Steps leading down to the beach. The beach itself is great flat. Great place to view sunsets and sunrises. I've seen a lot of kayakers in the areas well.

“Our favorite Cove...on the Central Coast...!!”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

This is a wonderful little cove...just down from Hearst Castle. We have been coming here for years when visiting the Central Coast, San Simeon, Cambria and/or Cayucos. Unfortunately...or fortunately, it's getting "discovered" so it might not be as quiet and peaceful as in the old days. We prefer to come to the cove for early morning walks or during mid week when we can have the whole place to ourselves...!!

The cove is fairly protected. Many times you'll see a boat or two at anchor. Many visitors just walk the wooden pier, but that's a mistake. Take your shoes off and go for a walk on the sandy beach all the way to the West/North end. It's not that far!!

For the more adventuresome, try walking all the way out to the cliffs. For this walk don't forget your shoes as you'll have to walk through the woods (cedar trees) in order to reach your destination. However, you'll be rewarded by some spectacular scenery. Bring your camera...!!

If all this activity makes you hungry, try the nearby Sebastian's. They have an awesome lunch menu...and open at 11:00. Beware...they normally get VERY busy around lunch time.

As a footnote, you can rent kayaks at the cove on a seasonal basis. Since the cove is protected by the headlands, the swells are gentle. This is the perfect place to start out if you're a beginner in ocean kayaking.
