“Best burger around and Hearst Ranch wine Tasting”
Reviewed August 11, 2012

In the historic 1852 Sebastian's General Store is a great little casual restaurant serving the best burgers ever! The beef is Hearst Ranch grass fed and delicious, and oh so good for you (Omega 3's and all...). They also have Hearst Ranch Wine Tasting and you can buy a glass to have with your meal. Warning: They close at 4pm VERY sharp. My sister was out visiting from PA and I just HAD to take her there for a burger and wine. Well they said we were too late as they close at 4. I had 3:58pm on my watch but maybe I'm 2 minutes slow? NO burger for us. Reminded me of Seinfeld's Soup Nazi episode, LOL! Very disappointed!! So we decided to go to a Mexican Restaurant, which shall remain nameless. We were thrilled to see Hearst Ranch burgers on their menu. Guess I should know enough to stick to the Mexican food at a Mexican Restaurant-DUH! Well we were both very disappointed as they were overcooked and dry and tasteless compared to the ones at Sebastian's.
They are very close to the Hearst Castle if you happen to be touring there or if you are visiting the elephant seals.

“Great spot for lunch”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

Right down at the beach (across from the entrance to Hearst Castle) is this little lunch spot. Fantastic salads (big!) with lots of good stuff. Burgers are delicious.
Warning - the line forms early and takes a while. Do not come here if you have a tour coming up... take the tour first and THEN come here and enjoy! Hearst Winery has a tasting bar in the back room. We've been here several times.

“A great casual lunch by the Castle”
Reviewed August 1, 2012

Sebastian's is a great casual eatery next to one of the most beautiful coastal coves in California. The line can be long on the weekend, but the food is well prepared and good.

“HUGE sandwiches!”
Reviewed July 31, 2012

We had lunch here after a Sunday morning visit to Hearst Castle. To look at the place you'd have no idea that the sandwiches would be so good, or so huge. Basically hot and cold sandwiches, burgers, tater tots, chips, a selection of bottled beverages, beer and wine. My wife and son both raved about their burgers made with Hearst Ranch beef. I had a roast beef and avocado sandwich that much have had a half pound of roast beef and an entire avocado on it, plus tomatoes, onions, peppers, etc. None of us could finish our entire sandwich. Limited seating inside at small tables, most of the seating is outside on bistro tables with umbrellas and picnic tables nearby. Be prepared for a wait in line to order your meal -- if you're in a rush, this is not the place to be. In fact, there's a sign advising customers who have upcoming tour reservations at Hearst Castle to allow plenty of time.

And if you're still up for it after you finish your huge sandwich, there's a wine tasting room for Hearst Ranch Winery literally right next to the sandwich shop under the same roof. Pretty good wines, $10 tasting fee (July 2012) which you can have applied to the purchase of a bottle of wine.

If you're spending an afternoon along this stretch of the Central Coast, this is a great place to stop for lunch -- as long as you're not in a hurry.

“Diamond in the Rough!”
Reviewed July 27, 2012

THE BEST burgers and sandwiches you'll ever eat. Sebastian's serves Hearst Ranch grass-fed, free-range beef, and it's delicious. Go hungry! HUGE burgers. I highly recommend the French Dip. Don't expect anything fancy. Seating is at a premium. You order at a counter and they yell your name when your food's ready to pick up at the window. There is also wine tasting, a small gift shop, and a United States Post Office. Seriously...get the French Dip. Add horseradish.
