I grew up going to this beach as a kid, so I guess I am partial. But even visiting as an adult, it has some magical power over me. The beach and pier are lovely, and if you visit, go down the beach to the "cove" and hike up the trail to the eucalyptus trees. You will make it out to the point and it's a fantastic view! Sebastian's market is a great place to stop and get sanwiches to take with you too!

Some very nice hikes (walks) in the park. We saw lots of wildlife and birds. Overall, a very nice visit for a day visit.

We hiked one afternoon and enjoyed it. We saw a number of deer, a rabbit, cows and birds.
It was not crowded and the hike was about 3.5 miles. Restrooms at the parking lot.
Beach access. Parking lot closes at sunset, no State Park staff on site.

While motorcycle camping I came to San Simeon campground. Along hwy 1 but insulated from hwy noise by trees and growth this is a great place to camp. From hot showers and a+ clean restrooms to primitive hillside areas called Washburn with outhouses and potable well water there is room for all. A hiking trail takes you to the driftwood strewn beach. Wildlife abounds from myriads of waterfowl to deer and raccoons. ( the latter will rip you off for any food stuffs you leave unattended in the night and ground squirrels are they're diurnal counterparts for the day shift).
Get firewood from the camp hosts and enjoy your fire pit at each site. Bleacher seating is available at the camp host area for , what I assume is, nature talks and group usage.

We waited until the last minute to book any reservations for Labor Day weekend. We were able to get one night in the campground here. Since we were arriving after dinner, and it was a crowded weekend, we feared the worst. But the attendant at the gate told us he had a good spot for us, at the top of the hill, "away from all the ruckus." Indeed, once we got past one load cell phone call from a neighbor woman, it was a wonderful night. Even at the top of the park, you're close enough to hear the ocean all night. And it was a nice walk to the beach for the sunset.

Not all of the rules are enforced on the beach, so be prepared for dogs. And we brought a drink.

On a lark, we decided to stop at the little amphitheater to hear the ranger presentation. He was very friendly and the presentation was very interesting! We learned a lot, being new to the area.

In summary,. nothing spectacular in the campground itself, but a nice place to stay that is close to Hearst Castle, Cambria, and not to much of a drive from the parks in Big Sur.
