The tour was great, the view surrounding the castle was beautiful. Went with my folks back in the 60's and I see they have added 2 more tours. I was impressed with the gorgeous swimming pool and of course, all the beautiful rooms inside the castle, along with the history the tour guide
presented to us. A must stop if you are ever out that way.

My husband and I stopped here during a 10 day coastal road trip. We had spent the day driving PCH 1 from Monterey through Big Sur and were actually pretty tired when we finally arrived to Hearst Castle (we had already spent several days in Northern California and had driven over 350 miles). We were told by friends that this was a "can't miss" so we tried to muster our second wind and stop for a visit. We were not disappointed. The visitor's center was busy but instructions were clear and the process was efficient. We were able to quickly board a bus that took us from the visitor's center up to the castle itself. The tour was informative and very interesting and afterwards we were able to tour the grounds on our own. The architecture is brilliant and the views are just unbelievable. This views alone were worth the cost of the admission. This was one of my favorite stops of our entire trip.

There are several tours to choose from. I believe we selected the "grand rooms" tour.

We joined 3 tours (you get a10% discount 2 tours but they have to take place on the same day) and it's well worth our money! All the tour guides were very knowledgeable of the history of the castle and very nice. I really enjoyed checking out the rooms in the castle and learning about William R Hearst. The tour is only 45 min and it'd be nice if the tour was longer because there are so many things to check out. Most people take the Grandroom tour but I recommend taking the 3 tours to see what other rooms are like. It will be a one day event if you take 3 tours (Grandroom, 2nd floor, and kitchen and cottages), the ticket price per tour is $25 per person. I find it helpful to buy ticket online so i get the tour time slot i want. The castle has great landscape and gardens. We spent a lot of time looking at the view of the coast and mountains, the view is very scenic and beautiful!

We enjoyed the tour of Hearst Castle and learning about the Hearst family and how the enchanted hill came to be. However, we did find the tour a bit pricey if you wanted to see the whole castle. It would have cost almost $75 per person for the three tours available. Enjoyed the bus ride up to the castle and it is a magnificent area!

We did the grand rooms tour and the upstairs tour so there was quite a lot to enjoy and it was definafely worth it. The tickets were a little pricey but it is run by the state and it helps to cover their costs to upkeep and maintain everything, and viewing the two huge swimming pools was worth the tickets alone! ( no...guests don't get to jump in and cool off either) the one pool is Greek inspired and a movie was even done by it, while the second and more obscure is tucked down off the main house where you board the ride back to the bottom of the hill and it is a mosaic blue and white with gold tones that boggles the imagination! It is amazing all the great people of its hay day who visited and gathered there. The gardens are beyond spectacular.... roses, cascading other flowers and big statues both Greek and Egyptian outside the main entry. The main living room and dining area are huge! It was interesting to learn the artwork and some architectural features were purchased after WWII when they were saved from the ruins of bombed Europe. It was nice to know they were preserved. The upstairs was incredible with its paintings, ceilings art, drapes and carving. There was a mile lo g walkway that used to be covered with flowers that people could walk under and a zoo on the grounds that wrapped around the entrance and separate exit drives up the hill. You could see the air strip Mr. Hearst put in from the drive up as well. The coast of California splashes off in the distance and is an incredible view from the main house. The gift shops offer a lot from trinkets to replicas of items from the castle. There is a restaurant in the gift shop building also and bathrooms. The wait wasn't very long considering the crowd. Would definitely recommend and would enjoy visiting again.
