So different to experience the castle at night, truly becomes enchanting. The Roman pool with the gold under the glass tiles, the statues and the reflective water is pure pleasure to view!

“Amazing attraction, well worth a visit.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

We were recommended to visit Hearst Castle and we were not disappointed. It is a short drive from the main coastal road to the ticket office. Then we boarded coaches to take us up to the castle. It is in the middle of rolling hills and was a total surprise when we saw it. It is very imposing and well designed. Stuffed with antiques, It is well maintained and the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. The swimming pools were awesome. Well worth the entrance fee.

“Amazing home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

This is not a theme park...lets be clear. This is a home that is today a museum piece. It is absolutely beautiful and something to be treasured. Mr Hearst and his architect can genuinely rest with pride for what was achieved at this property. Its amazing in all its forms and its respect for the treasured art it houses. The view is spectacular and the grounds of the castle beautifully laid out. I did the upstairs tour which shows the private rooms and guest rooms. I would have liked to have seen the whole house but that was a different tour with another $$. So I had to choose. Definitely worth the visit though. Make time to view the movie in the theatre after your tour.

“Worth a visit”

We really on visited the Visitor Center. It has some very interesting pieces from the Hearst Castle and a lot of photos and information. The view of the castle was enough for us. The landscape is gorgeous.

“Beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2013

Hard to describe this place. Wife and I went here on a recent road trip. I expected opulence and excess and over the top lavishness and beauty, but it exceeded my expectations. The castle itself is amazing and beautiful, although a bit weird too. I do wonder about a man who builds a 138 room castle for himself when he entertained only in small groups. But I enjoyed seeing it and all the artwork and decor inside. The grounds were also amazing. We especially enjoyed seeing the herd of zebras grazing along the road. We didn't know about them ahead of time, so it was a bit of a surprise for us.

Tickets are a bit on the pricey side, especially if you opt to do more than one tour. If I had one complaint it would be that they don't show enough of the house. For 138 rooms, we saw only maybe a a dozen or so, and we did two different 45 minute tours. I've been to the Biltmore in North Carolina and other big houses - even the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, and those tours show off much more of the house. Rather than short little tours that only show a few rooms, I'd rather the parks department have a 2 hour tour that covers most (if not all) of the rooms. I would've been interested to see the kitchen and/or guest house or some more of the bedrooms, but not for $25 for each separate ticket, per person.
