We went for the lunch buffet. The offerings were slim compared to Favorite Restaurant so the variety was missing. The food was okay and the restaurant was clean. The service was not warm or friendly that day.

Visiting in San Ramon, we needed a not-very-elaborate meal. Initially we were hesitant to go in: dark, only pen other couple at 7PM. But when we entered we realized that the windows were tinted: it was bright enough inside the room. And people began arriving as we ate. The okra masala was nicely grilled, but it lacked spices. The paneer was firm and tasty. The portions were generous. It was a perfectly fine meal, but not one that we would seek out again.

For Indian restaurants the best review I can give them is that I would go back a second time. Well I would certainly re-visit Divan. Although the atmosphere is a little cold, the food was excellent. The naan was especially good as were the vegetable pakora. My one comment is that they might be a little more generous with the portions which I found to be somewhat on the modest size. However a very good meal was enjoyed by myself and my guests.

Divan indo-pak cuisine
Context: desperate for a good meal in san ramon, we picked this place because the reviews were generally good. It was Friday at 5:15 and there were two of us
Atmosphere: middle scale Indian. Nice wooden tables, upholstered chairs, wood floors and some framed Indian pictures. No tv. Place was clean with no signs of leftover buffet.
Service: we were greeted promptly and seated. The place was empty but it started filling up within the first thirty five minutes. Server was young and didn't seem very informed about the food, but she was friendly and clearly trying to be accommodating. We were spending quite a bit of time just sitting and drinking a beer and the other server even came over to ask us if we wanted to order. Our water was kept filled and we had no complaints for service throughout the dinner.
Food: really good food. The chef is from masala Indian that closed in Danville and while his creativity is not allowed to shine here the consistent high quality is evident. The food was very intense and flavorful without water running out of the edge of the dishes. We had four dishes: a special lamb dish we requested from the chef, saag paneer, malai kofta and baighan bhartha (eggplant). The lamb was tender with a deep brown curry sauce with whole spices in it. The saag was blended and creamy without being rich. Seemed to have a mixture of greens, no tomatoes and firm paneer. Mali kofta was the one slip, if there was one, the kofta tasted freezer burned. Maybe not the best dish to get from here but the curry sauce was rich and tasty and a bit sweet. The kofta and lamb curries were similar so maybe they aren't good dishes to order at the same dinner. Baighan bhartha was smoky eggplant with onion and spices with a deep smoky, sweet flavor, perhaps the best of the bunch. We also had an Indian beer. There was a selection of wines on the menu as well. Rice and naan do not come with the meal. We ordered one order of each. Naan is thin, a tad crispy and a tad chewy with some charred spots. The rice was fine but nothing special.
We had enough food for four more meals so serving sizes are ample. We will be back.
