Stayed there 10 nights for business visit to our HQ. Having stayed at Embassy Suites several times before, this one was another fine place - warm, accomodative but had a feel of being very ordinary. You'll get the median run of hotel service and not a lot else. Good for business, but not if you want a relaxed getaway...

Although we have stayed here a number of times and had positive experiences, this time we found the front desk manger to be lacking in good Hilton/ES service. Late evening check in, he couldn't be bothered to print out the rate for the reservation or give us our internet access code which we paid for in the room rate. We found out in the morning that he should have provided it but no refund was offered or given after we requested it. 2 strikes.

Despite past reviews, we chose this property, trusting in Hilton standards to suffice. I regret to say that the property is indeed dated and tired. Hallway carpets are filthy and stained. Our first room had a stale pet or tobacco-like smell. We requested another room right away and the front desk clerk very nicely put us in another room. The walls are paper thin and every comment, movement, sound(s) can be heard. Very awkward!

Those are the cons.

There are pros: the nice desk clerk who even met us at a new room rather than asking us to return downstairs for a new key. He even came in and waited while we were satisfied that the room was acceptable...all with a smile and nice attitude. The breakfast hostess was pleasant and helpful, as was the wait staff who quickly and efficiently cleaned tables and removed dirty dishes. Breakfast was varied and well-prepared. The property is right off a major highway. We flew into San Francisco and left in a rental car shortly after 7:30 p.m. We were in heavy traffic leaving San Francisco but were checked in by 9 p.m.

Would I stay here again? Probably not, unless there was a renovation.

I regret that as a loyal Hilton Honors member I have to write a bad review for one of their properties. This property has a good staff, they just have a very tired property.

Room Tip: If you book on Hilton, the front desk reads and tries to fulfill special requests.

Stayed one nightbwhile in town. It's a typical Embassy Suites layout for both rooms and facility. Free breakfast was good but as usual, very crowded. Service was slow to clean tables so had to wait a few minutes. The free cocktail hour the night before was mixed. Good selection of beer on tap (a few very good microbrews with your sandard selections as well). The snacks offered where dismal (pretzels, goldfish and popcorn). A a minimum they could gave thrown in some chips and dip/salsa. Close to various restaurants (all ranges) and also very close to China Camp State Park (a little known gem in the state's park system).

The staff at the hotel were all friendly and hard working. However, they had work cut out, as it was clear that to save money the staff was cut to the bone.

Breakfast: They make a big deal of the "cooked-to-order" breakfast, which tasted fine. However, there was a long wait for it in the morning as there were not enough staff to cope with demand. On the weekends this was less of an issue as pancakes, French toast, and eggs were put out on a buffet table. This would have been a good idea during the week as well, as breakfast is over at 9.30. There is also fruit, pastries and cereals. Juices are all from concentrate.

Room: The bed was comfy and the toiletries nice. The furniture was adequate but very dated. Also, there was a consistent mechanical noise coming from somewhere outside in the hotel, which was annoying with the window open. I informed the night staff but it did not make a difference.

Cleanliness: The rooms were clean. However, there seems to be a lack of supervision in the common areas. A breakfast sausage was left in the hallway Friday morning. It was still there when I checked out Monday morning...

Pool: The regular pool was very cold, stank of chlorine and the hot pool was only luke-warm, a breeding ground for bacteria.

If you have a family, or are staying long term, I can see that the suite is useful. If you are a couple and don't need the extra space, there are cheaper options nearby that are located closer to shops and other facilities. I thought it expensive for what it was, more like a motel,

I stayed at this property one night of a vacation in July 2011 during a transition from wine country (Napa and Sonoma) down into the San Francisco metro area.

This is a smaller (5 story) and older Embassy Suites hotel tucked away just off US101 on the outskirts of San Raphael, California. There is really not much surrounding this hotel in the way of shops, points of interest, or restaurants, so a car would be essential for guests looking for a place to eat or for entertainment.

The room was clean and comfortable. However, the elevator interiors and hallway carpeting were well worn and beginning to show some age. The central indoor atrium, which is the signature feature of Embassy Suites properties, was faintly dingy and the fake flowers surrounding the elevators needed to be dusted.

Parking space surrounding the hotel was adequate and there was an indoor hot tub available for those guests so inclined. WIFI in the rooms (at least my room) was intermittently effective, but was free of charge. However, local telephone calls placed from the room were $1.00 apiece and automatically charged to the room.

A manager's reception was held for a couple of hours in the hotel atrium in the late afternoon, and there was a restaurant with limited breakfast, lunch and dinner hours for guests that did not feel like leaving the hotel for better options.

In summary, this hotel could stand some refurbishment and seems to be the lower end of the nationwide Embassy Suits chain.

Unless you get a really good deal on a room at this hotel, the smart move would likely be to seek a better option nearby that should be easily found at a similar price.

Room Tip: Membership in a preferred guest program might get you a better room on 4th of 5th floor.

Hotel has a wonderful complimentary breakfast. The rooms were clean and staff very helpful. Complimentary drinks and snacks every night. Parking was free and mall is within close proximity.
