“love this place!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 26, 2013

the ambiance is great... drinks in jars! and the food - my o my... loving the chicken and the rice&beans.

crowds descend on this joint, and i don't get it when people complain about not knowing what to order when they've been in line for even 10 minutes. i worked in food service for years, ,and to serve 120 people at one minute per person is still gonna take two hours. so when someone comes up to the order counter and has to decide, they just made everyone else wait an extra two or three or five minutes.

and to complain about being "rushed out" of a joint that has a line of fifty or so people in the street just seems pretty self-centered. if you want to linger over your meal, then order to go and take it to one of the many parks in the area.

and people who don't like "communal eating" ought to eat someplace else, because having strangers over at your table is like an adventure, and might be enjoyed.

i love this place and put up with all those "inconveniences" because the food is so great and my time there is special because i go with family and much-love friends!

“Good food, but not a good dining experience”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2013

The food was good, but if you're not a family of 8 you can count on "cattle car, communal seating". I was there with my family and didn't particularly care about sharing a dining experience with total strangers, and being rushed out after taking waiting for 45 minutes in line outside and them our orders standing outside on the sidewalk. I thought it was a more classier restaurant than that. Maybe they should tell non-local visitors THAT. So, unless you're doing "take-out", if you want a great dining experience, you might consider trying someplace else. Too bad too, because the food is very good.

“Great Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2013

We went as a big family for the first time, so it was kind of weird ordering fast food style. The menu wasn't laid out all that great either, making it harder to decide. The food is what you are there for and like everyone has said you can't go wrong with anything. The PO'Boy sandwich is packed with flavor, The Bistec and Pollo with black beans and rice is very authentic, and if you have a little one they can cook a grilled cheese for them.

“OMG!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 17, 2013

We were referred here by the concierge at a local hotel. We originally went to the very tiny storefront/carryout on 4th ... and eventually found our way to the Lincoln Ave site. The food was fabulous ... and more than I could eat. Half the chicken [pollo horno] and half the rice and beans went back to the hotel with me, along with a good part of the salad, which apparently comes with the main dishes.

Note that they seat family style ... we met and ate with a couple of young women from Brazil and Chile who are studying in San Rafael for 6 months ... and there's no alcohol served. A glass of cab would've really hit the spot!
