“good for overnight”
Reviewed July 16, 2007

This is a fairly typical roadside motel. Though nothing fancy it was clean and well kept. The folks and the front desk were polite and helpful. I'd stay there again while traveling through.

You don't expect much from a Travelodge and you don't get it. Tempted by some positive reviews, I decided to go on the cheap at this Travelodge, hoping the great price, $75, would make up for the lack of atmosphere. I was wrong. We arrived close to midnight and were greeted by a shuttered lobby. Instead, we walked around to the side and buzzed for a desk clerk. When you're doing that at midnight, you know dealing with a guest is the last thing on their mind. Despite that, he was pleasant enough and even helped us out after midnight figuring out the password for the wireless internet. We passed credit cards and papers through a slot under bullet proof glass and went to our rooms. The rooms were very nice, if your concept of nice ended in 1958. But it was well-preserved and clean with a 27 inch TV that had lots of channels. There was free wireless internet, but the room had no three-prong outlets so I couldn't plug in my laptop. I had to rap my bathroom fluorescent light to get it going and the bathroom looked out on an auto-repair shop. The neighborhood is strictly nuts and bolts industrial. We checked out the next morning and went to a great Four Points Sheraton up the road for only $40 more. If you just want to crash in San Rafael, this will do. Just leave your sense of security and expectations behind. They were very gracious in not charging me for my second reserved night even though they had a 2 day cancellation policy.

My husband and I found this hotel to be clean and surprisingly quiet. Since it is located so close to the freeway. The room looked like it was recently remodeled and included a small frig and burner. It is conveniently located and reasonably priced for the bay area.

We wanted to be near Tiburon and Mill Valley for one night, and this hotel looked like it would meet our needs based on reviews, and was not expensive.

From the outside, it didn't look like much. It is on a freeway frontage road, along "auto/industrial/warehouse row." No outside ambiance whatsoever.

But once we got into the unit (king sized comfy bed, non-smoking, with jetted tub) we found it to be comfortable and clean and not near as much freeway noise as we feared. The furniture appeared new and was semi-Scandinavian-looking. The clincher was the HDTV plasma TV. That did it. We watched TV, took a nap and enjoyed our little room. We almost didn't want to leave.

Other attributes are: once you find your way off Francisco Blvd (the frontage road), you can easily get to downtown San Rafael which is literally "restaurant row" along 4th Street. From the motel, you go North and turn left on 3rd and drive a few blocks downtown. There are a lot of one-way streets so you have to be careful about that. But, when you find 4th Street, the street trees are festively lit up in the evening and there are so many shops and restaurants that the choices become challenging! All good.

Regarding morning food at the motel, don't expect much. The "continental breakfast" is coffee, orange juice (one choice of juice) and a sweet roll in plastic. But the nice folks who run the place are friendly and welcoming.

We probably wouldn't return, as we live in the SF Bay Area, but our stay was quite nice. For folks who need to stay one night in the area, moving from place to place, it's a good stopover if you can prepare for the stark location alongside the freeway.

  • Liked — close to our destination and good restaurants, TV
  • Disliked — on side of freeway in warehouse district

This small Hotel in san Rafeal still had its Banner proclaiming it was a Travel Lodge across the entrance.
Cute as a button looked excactly as photo.
The Owner./Manager was so helpful, we had driven from the San fran Airport, stopping to see and walk the GGB.
A perfect quiet clean very reasonable place to stay, surrounding area construction going on.
We chose this for one night stay before heading for a day sightseeing, Muir Woods,Pacific Higway and Point Reyes National seashore for some whalewatching.
Our request for extra pillows and coffee pouchs were met with a smile and no probs.
Directed to Union market a few blocks to purchase our picnic for the next day. The food was so varied we decided to eat our supper too with goods purchased and a bottle of wine.

I stayed here for one night at the end of my San Francisco vacation. The US 101 cooridor immediately north of the Golden Gate Bridge seems to lack hotels/motels which is why I ended up here. The motel is older and has been remodeled recently. Very basic room features and everything was clean.

Despite this, the room had an odd mustly smell sort of like your grandmother's basement. The motel is located in an industrial area off US 101 at the I-580 exit. Not near any restaurants other than a Burger King where the day laborers were hanging out looking for work. The internet access did not work all the time. Breakfast consisted of coffee or juice and pre-packaged danish. I did have to pay for my room upfront so you might want to check the room they are going to give you before you pay. The motel is close to Muir Woods and other attractions north of the Golden Gate Bridge. A couple mights here is the most I could do here. Expect basic accomodations and you won't be disappointed.
