The manager apologized when we checked in that no ground floor rooms were available, and there is no elevator. He accommodated us by renting us a handicap room on the ground floor. That was very nice of him, but the room was hideous. It apparently had NOT been renovated. The bathroom was bigger than the bedroom...could barely move after putting our luggage on the floor. The bathroom had some ugly dark brown vinyl on it (possibly for wheelchairs?) and the entire room was dark. The a/c unit did not seem to cool the room at all, even though the fan was going full blast. We finally decided it was more efficient to open the window! The room photos on this website do not resemble the room we stayed in at all...not to mention people were coming in and out of the room next door at all hours.
The room was awful, but the staff was very helpful - they even made an afternoon pot of coffee so my husband could have some.

Room Tip: Do not get the handicap room!!

We stayed here as a place to stay between San Fran & San Jose airport. It was ok. Staff were very nice. Room was large, had microwave & fridge. Loved the plantation shutters. Large room. We stayed twice after the inbound flight and before the outbound. It was a little musty smelling but Lysol took care of that. Hotel is just about 3 blocks from an nice mall. Lots of food choices just around the corner. Worth the price.

It has wood floors in the room. There was a lot of dust under the beds and some one lost a sock under one bed. A full week later that same sock was still under the bed when we stayed before our flight. Still would be ok for me.

We wanted to visit San Francisco but did not want to pay high price for hotel. From the outside this motel doesn't look promising but rooms were recently updated. Very modern. Had microwave and refrigerator and large screen tv with satellite. Staff was very nice and helpful. Breakfast was adequate, basic. Coffee good. We drove less than 15 minutes to the Shops at Tanforan, parked for free in Target lot and caught the BART to down town San Francisco - took less than 30 minutes to get there. It was great to come back to quiet San Mateo after an entire day in downtown SF.

Everything was good with this location except for the very poor water pressure in the shower. This was our 2nd stay here and it was the same last year as well.
