“best "I want a mission burrito"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2012

Pancho Villa is a legend in San Francisco. Their location on 16th Street is one of the largest, best lit, most consistent, widest menu, decently priced places in the entire mission. It's not the best at any one thing, but it's very good at everything. The San Mateo branch is similar. Everything's good. Really good. If you've started eating Chipotle, a corporate tone-down of the mission burrito, you know the drill - pick your object (tacos, burrito ...) pick your meat pick your fillings. Except it'll be better than what you've had at Chipotle.

My favorite order here is a super quesidia with meat. They put lettuce inside, and grill it fresh. Good stuff, and a wonderful accessible lunch. Lousy chairs, so you won't linger.

“Decent food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

The food is good. I have never had any meat dishes so I cannot comment about them. The vegetarian food is good, there are several choices from burritos, tacos and nachos. I think their salsas are outstanding and its probably the reason I keep returning.

“Great Taqueria.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 21, 2012

We have been to Pancho Villa a number of times over the years.
Food: Good quality, large servings and authentic flavors. Our favorites are the al pastor tacos, nachos and large black bean burittos. The salsa selection is excellent.
Ambiance: Ok ambiance, meant for a quick eat and run. However, it is clean and well maintained.
Service: Self order and they bring the food to the table. Staff are always nice.
Overall, a great taqueria for a quick meal of good food. We will be going back often.

“If in SF make the pilgramage”

Tired of the hipster wanabes that, while different in their home towns are exaclty the same as every other hipster wanabe that populates San Francisco? Get on CalTrain, get off in San Mateo, and come to this place. Portions are enormous. The food is fresh fresh fresh. Their tag line is in a clean environment...could not be more true. The options are almost overwhelming. Don't feel rushed. Read the menu, contemplate your choices, and then dig in. Vegeterians in your crew? No problem. There are lots of choices for veggies too. After your order and complementary endless chips, visit the salsa bar for award winning salsa. Get yourself a fresh coconut for the water and when you are done, have it opened so you can enjoy the flesh as a refreshing dessert. It'll cool your palate after the fire of the chiles. I have yet to be dissapointed.

“I miss you Pancho Villa.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2012

Years ago my husband and I used to eat at this Pancho Villa. We were traveling through San Mateo recently and decided to eat dinner here. It hasn't changed that much in almost 10 years. The portions are still large, the food is pretty darn tasty Mexican and the prices are very reasonable. The restaurant is casual and you order at the counter. My only regret is that they don't have a Pancho Villa near us.
