It's a perrenial standby for me. The pizza is the closest to east coast I've found. I've been eating it since the mid-80's when the Coopersteins first opened in San Mateo. More recently, I've been enjoying their vegan pizza. It's satisfying without compromising my diet. The pasta is cooked nicely - al dente - the way it should be, although the homestyle marinara sauce is a little heavy on the plate. I had quite a bit left over last night when the pasta was gone. Ditto salad dressing. The caesar dressing is good on the house salad, but there's too much of it. Amici's San Mateo location is best as a family place.

The place looks like a fast food restaurant but with high prices. Their beer list is typically a fast food joint with no imagination. The servers all dresses alike (again a lack of imagination on the part of the owner who must ask his servers to all dress alike: white shirt and black pants). The tables and chairs are cheap looking and uncomfortable. We sat down, order a beer and left once we saw the prices of their pizzas.
