“poor choice”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 2, 2013

The quality, taste and preparation of our dinner was very disappointing. They have a kitchen problem and need to hire a decent chef. We had the steak sandwich which appeared and tasted like shoe leather and, a french dip which is pretty hard to destroy. Roll was stale, meat tasted like packaged processed beef (not of good quality) the aux jus was similar to cold, salty soy sauce. Servers are okay; they don't cook/prepare the food. If you are looking for a good meal in an adult atmosphere, forget it.

We have been going to "The E-Bar" for over 20 years (Palm Desert, La Jolla, Ranch Bernardo, etc.). Never a disappointment!!

“Very Inconsistent and the Executive Chef does not seem to care.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013

Lets start with the good stuff. The Lamb Shanks are really good when they get it right and the macadamia sauce for the fish is great as are the desserts. However we have had a few not great experiences. The last was a very overcooked lobster my girlfriend ordered. The chef came out and suggested we order something else when he saw it needed a knife saw to cut it. He had a sad look and just seemed to give up. The waiter looked seriously embarrassed. While he comped her meal, we came in because she wanted lobster. .

“Consistent”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

Elephant Bar is a chain, so if you've been to one you pretty much know what to expect. Their menu is large and well-varied, definitely something for everyone in your group -- try a meal of appetizers if you like sampling, they're great. The atmosphere at the San Marcos location isn't as 'hip' as some other EBs I've been to, but it's a nice sit-down place. The patio leaves much to be desired, however (overlooks the parking lot). Love the big, high back booths because the noise level in other seating areas is not my fav. Overall, a very consistent place.
