Description: Mama's Meatball offers authentic, homemade Italian dining & catering, Our chef cultivates and harvest most of the organic produce to be used in our menu from our garden's rich soil. The idea of a garden in the city is fascinating and it allows us to keep in constant contact with nature while providing with a true Farm-to-Table experience. Furthermore, we are committed to preserve the land and its resources by providing agricultural produce, fishery and cattle livestock that adhere to strict sustainability practices. All poultry, fish, beef, and pork are sourced locally and must be, free range, organic, non-hormone treated. Just as Chef Nicola wants to pay respect to the culinary history of Italy, he is solid in his commitment to respect our land and water, with conscious usage of the resources available

“Classic Italian”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

Small, bustling restaurant in commercial center in downtown SLO. January is a good time to go as it is restaurant month: fixed price menu with 3 courses for $30. Or try one of the many entree options, including pizza, pasta, or meat/chicken offerings, which can be ordered as a small or large portion, and priced accordingly...a nice touch. Tonight we had pork medallions in dijon mushroom sauce.....tender and delicious, garnished with crispy roasted potatoes and steamed broccoli. Eggplant parmesan is also very good, as is the rich Pasta Carbonara. Special wine offerings change weekly and can be ordered by the glass, half carafe, or bottle. Service is good and reservations are advised as this restaurant always seems busy.

“Better than your Mama's”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

We missed out on this restaurant on our first visit as our large group was difficult for them to accommodate without reservations. Eyeing some of the patrons dishes we knew we had to come back. The right call. The wait staff is prompt, professional and know their wine list; also offer a reasonable corkage if you BYO after a day of tasting. The atmosphere is intimate and family friendly....your going to share a conversation with the tables near yours!. Food is well prepared and the presentation excellent. As a cook I learned a few things from the dishes we enjoyed. Portions are overly generous, but perfect to share. Mama's will be a must repeat on our next SLO visit.

“As my mama would say..."a nica meataball"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2012

I discovered Mama's Meatball through an online promotion and have been returning consistently since then. Mama's is tucked away behind a commercial building in downtown San Luis Obispo.
The location is quaint and the staff always greats you warmly upon entering the restaurant. On my last visit, they were very busy, so I could sit at my preferred table, yet they still went out of there way to seat me at another table of my choosing in a different area. Their food is well prepared and my last meal of eggplant parmigiana was thoroughly enjoyable. I count myself as a "regular" and encourage a visit if you are seeking tasty Italian cuisine.

“Very Nice Canneloni and Thin Crust Pizza”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2012

My husband and I both ordered the canneloni. Tasted like it was homemade, We appreciated that we could each have a half order which was plenty for us. The pizzas ordered by other customers looked so good that we took one with us to enjoy later. Beautiful thin crust but a little light on the toppings. Will definitely go back!

“Small but good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

The food in this restaurant is tasty. The meatballs are what you would expect since that is the name. Mama makes good meatballs.
The restaurant is small but cozy. The noise level can be excessive but that's o.k The cannoli is tasty so the noise doesn't matter.
Prices are steep on some items so one needs to pick and choose if on a budget. We will go back.
