We were on a California swing from southern Calif to San Fransisco and selected this Inn as a stopping point on the way up North. We stayed in the Country Gentleman suite which is really nice and cheaper than 2 rooms. There were 3 kids and two adults. The site has a lving room area with an extra large couch, game table with chess layout, a seating area with two chairs, an gas fireplace with electric start, a bar area with a refrigerator. Very nice and refined. It is in a older country style with wood panels. The main bedroom has a queen four poster bed and ample closet. There is one bedroom which is hared off the main bedroom. More on that later. There is a upstairs with two twin beds. Overall a very comfortable area for 5. You could put two on the couches with sleeping bags if needed.

There is a pool and spa area and fitness center immediately above the room about a one minute walk. The pool was great with a nice layout, sufficient umbrellas and a really nice waterfall. A great ambiance. The pool is up high and has amazing vistas of the surrounding areas. We spend a whole afternoon here. There is a pool bar and cafe upstairs that has light food and drinks. Very nice folks. The kids had pineapple juice. We had suitable adult beverages. All good and well priced.

The room was equipped with a ironing board and iron which we used. The room has flat screen TV's which were dells, which I hadn't seen so they added these early on. The room is centrally located to SLO and we went to the farmers market on Thurs night which was a blast. Lots of things to eat and do.

The room has an electronic Toilet the height of the stay for the kids. Toto brand it has a heated toilet seat and a hydraulically operated bidet with front and back options and a dryer! The kids loved the toilet. (Its pretty cool actually!)

They have bakery on the site which makes cakes and other items but did not have croissants or other tender breakfast items. We ate at the restaurant one day nothing to speak of. They used to have a fantastic urinal in the main building but it was gone when I arrived. I guess they removed it.

They leave a hang tag for breakfast for continental. The kids wanted a full service menu but that was not to be seen. The lady at the upstairs pool bar said we could have ordered anything.

Overall we had a great stay at the Madonna Inn. We paid $349 night

My husband and I had heard about this place and were very curious to see it. It was lunchtime, 1978, when we ordered choclate cake and in it came with curls of choclate bar on top of it. I have never seen such a hug pience of cake with such sumptuous icing like that. I noted in Snow White's trip advisor report she ordered a pink cake concoction. Yummy! We heard about the different themed-rooms and thought that would be a lot of fun so it was fun to see one of them. That was so long ago I think I only remember an anuimal skin, if that, in one room. California is such a wonderful state in my opinion. I loved everything about the area and other areas also. We saw Heart's Castle which was another eye opener and Eureka's fine mansions byt The Madonna House so captured the Disneyesque kidn of California I really love. I would go back in a trice!

We booked this room on a recommendation from a travel agent. We were driving from southern California up to San Francisco and decided to take a detour. We were really looking forward to it as it seemed completely unusual. We booked the Kona Rock room because it had the stone fireplace and other quirky bits and pieces.
We both really liked it, it lives up to its name in terms of its gaudiness (not a bad thing for this hotel) and quirkiness. The room was large, very clean and while not modern, it was in a pretty good state. The only thing with the room was that it doesn't have a huge amount of storage space but that was ok for us.
We loved the outdoor pool with fantastic views and pool side bar/shop. There is also a Jacuzzi and spa rooms (we didn't use the spa).
We booked dinner that night, the decor again is not for the faint hearted but it's loud and fun. the waiters are attentive but not overly friendly (or at least ours seemed kind of bored). They had a jazz band playing and there were a lot of couples dancing which was really nice to see.
The food was really good, my husband is vegetarian and we knew beforehand that he had a limited choice of 1 main course, he is not fussy and enjoyed his plate of vegetables. The portions are massive.
We also had breakfast the following morning and it was good.
Overall we enjoyed it, it is expensive but is one of those once in a life time trips that we did and it was worth it.

I would give Madonna Inn 3 and 1/2 stars for its' uniqueness. It was a lot of fun with the different themes of each room. We stayed at The Great American room which had a beautiful stone fireplace with a comfy chaste lounge. The only complaint were the kids next door. The night before they were loud and running around but finally settled down. But we woke up the next morning to the kids screaming and being loud. I called the front desk and they sent a housekeeper to walk around the vicinity, which she heard nothing. You couldn't hear them from the outside, but it definitely was amplified through the thin shared walls. I called a second time and this time they called the room. The family didn't even have their children registered so shame on them for hiding it and for allowing their children to get out of control. With that being said, it actually was a really cool one time life experience to stay at such an unique place.

Room Tip: The cave is supposed to be the most requested. Book at least 6 months in advance and make sure there aren't any screaming kids next door.

It is unique, to say the least, and clean. However, I can't say it was worth the money. The room was a bit run down, the location isn't great along a highway, and there isn't much to do nearby. The service also wasn't great. That being said, if you are looking for a place to stay in the area, this isn't a bad choice. Just make sure you know what to expect.
