I recently stayed in the Best Western Royal Oak in San Luis Obispo with my wife. We used it as a stop over town as we were travelling down Pacific Highway from north to south. The place is nothing special, but very much as you would expect from a best western hotel. Clean, tidy with basic room and bathroom amenities. The shower was a little weakly powered but other than that this is a nice hotel. It has a gym, outdoor pool, and jacuzzi which were quite pleasant. The staff were very friendly and helpful with regards to checking in and advising on places to go and see or eat. It is fairly accessible to and from the main highways, yet not noisy. There is a Starbucks straight across the road (although they do have coffee making facilities in the room). There is also a shopping area across the road which has a supermarket (Ralphs), and a few other stores. Also a post office, which we found useful. The breakfast room (as breakfast was included) got very busy, and is not very big, so we could not get in to get a table. As it happens we needed to move on anyway, so only grabbed a croissant and did a kind of take out, but if you wanted to sit for breakfast it could have been awkward. I don't think you can book a time slot so I would advise getting up early if you want breakfast there. I wouldn't want to stay there for a long period, but as a stop over, this hotel is more than adequate.

Room Tip: Probably best to ask for a room overlooking the pool, as the others overlook the car park.

Excellent place near the Madonna Inn but more elegant :) good pool, great breakfast, close to downtown, nice people - DO get a pool-view room so you're not overlooking the IHOP parking lot and even though it is California they have smoking rooms in case that's important to you - free fruit all day and well-stocked snack machines, we ALWAYS stay there when in SLO

Welcoming staff, knowledgeable about attractions and directions to places. Location is great. Only 10 miles from Pismo and other beach front locations. Was in SLO for holiday. Rooms a large and comfy like the beds. Fridge and Micro a plus. Good lighting and bathroom was fine. Balcony off room with seating. No outside...

Stayed here on way from LA to San Francisco. Lovely clean hotel. Great breakfast and free drinks at happy hour! Nice array of shops and eateries opposite to give you somewhere to walk to and stretch your legs!

Rooms were CLEAN (bathroom, vanity, fridge, microwave, beds, pool area, hallways, and even the outside were CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN). Only problems were the smell (our room smelled slightly musty when we walked in but we aired it out and it smelled better; the lobby and breakfast area also smelled like I don't know what - it was hard to eat in the breakfast area with the smell - we ended up going out for breakfast instead). Also - hotel staff was quick to shut down the pool at 10PM which we appreciated as our room faced the pool - we wouldn't have been able to sleep otherwise.
