The back patio of this cafe is so darling. Koi (or just particularly large goldfish) turn circles in a small pond next to your table. Low-hanging vines curl above your shoulder. The atmosphere is calming and charming. The food and beverages are just as good: The peach Italian cream soda is divine!
My one qualm with Linnaea's was that, the one time I went, the baristas weren't really enthusiastic at all. Might have just been a stressful day, but they just didn't seem happy, which was off-putting.

A SLO standard for decades. Plentiful food, tops for country breakfasts. Bring your cowboy friends here with hearty appetites, and good to home cooking'

I go to Linnaea's Cafe' in San Luis Obispo every month or so. I like its informal and laidback atmosphere (there are always many college students with their laptops hanging in there for as long as they want) and its back patio with the lovely pergola.
They have a very good selection of teas and beverages.
Last time I went I tried the Mexican hot chocolate and it became my new favorite: with a hint of cinnamon and spices, hot and comforting.

Prices are also reasonable, the only negative thing is that they have a minimum of $ 10 purchase if you want to use a debit card (which I use all the time), so a couple of times I ended up getting a couple of pastries in order to reach $10. Not a big deal, of course, just remember to have cash if you're ordering just a coffee or a latte.

Grab some coffee and go out back, and step back into the late 60s art scene. This is a must see if your visiting San Luis Obispo. Reminds me of a downtown Seattle, coffee shop from long ago.

Between Higuera and Marsh Streets on Garden St. Coffee, poetry and art among the people who wear black. Linnaea started the coffee house craze in San Luis, now she has plenty of competition.
