Owner description: Named because it resembles a bishop's hat, the highest peak of the Morros range is heavily used by hikers and bicyclists. The climb to the top will take anywhere from one to two hours depending on your fitness level.

“Great Views”

An iconic SLO hike. Factor in weather. Above 70 degrees and you'll feel like your are walking in a sauna. Advertised as 4 miles but feels like 6. One trailhead starts in Oak woodland and transitions to more open Chaparral. Take lots of water. The views at the top are worth it. Great 360 degree views of the county. Be careful with your footing on the narrow steep slopes. Three people have died while hiking this trail.

“Nice Views”

Great trail in the heart of SLO - Easlily accessible from several trail heads. Nice quick workout uphill all the way, and then down on the way back - just the way I like 'em.

“Bring your water bottle!”
Reviewed September 27, 2012

This is a nice hike with great views. It's fairly rigorous, so be ready for a good work out. If you go during the summer or warm season, be sure to bring enough water and leave early enough in the morning to miss the afternoon heat.

Grab some water, sunscreen and a pair of shoes you don't mind getting dirty. A GREAT hike with an amazing view.

“A good workout and great views!”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

We did the "easy" hike and had a great time! We had heard that the longer hike starts from the bottom of Foothill Dr and the shorter hike starts at Patricia Dr/Highland, so we went with the latter since we wanted to do a good bit of driving that day (we were on a drive up the coast). If you do the shorter hike, you take Highland through the Cal Poly campus and then through a neighborhood, following signs for "trail access". You drive until the street dead-ends into a cul-de-sac with a few gated homes and access to the park/trail (but it is not very clearly marked that it's the trail for Bishop Peak). There are some parking spots on the street coming back down the hill.

It took us probably an hour on the way up and a little less on the way back. We started at about 7am so it was cool at the beginning but warmed up quickly- wear layers! The hike through the forest at the beginning was cool and the hike up the mountain varied in temperature as the sun rose and depending on which face we were climbing. it was foggy so it was cool to hike above the fog and see only peaks of other small mountains in the area!
