It was another Saturday in San Luis Obispo (frequently referred to as "San Luis" or "SLO" pronounced 'slow') with the family. We were hungry and wanted to try a place we had never visited. In fact, we intentionally sought out a place that was not on many of the ratings websites. A friend suggested we try "Buffalo". We were not disappointed.
Outside was just another brick facade to a pub. It seemed dark inside. Upon entry, we were promptly greeted and offered a comfortable booth. It was brighter than it looked. The place was not crowded, and had several tables with guests. The bar was about 1/3 full. Noise level was lower that you would think for a pub. I'm guessing this was because the college kids were not in town yet.
The menu has a decent selection. We ordered the kids cheese quesadilla $7.50), the pastrami sandwich ($10.50) and the fish & chips ($10.50). Service was prompt. The food arrrived quickly and looked pretty good. The quesadilla was pretty typical in size and taste, with a side of mild salsa. The fish & chips was a large serving. The breading used was somewhat soggy and had litle flavor. But the fish was moist, tender and hot with great flavor. It was not greasy as you would expect. The chips were nicely cooked and seasoned. The pastrami sandwich was the standout dish of the day. What a surprise! Pastrami piled very high on rye bread and grilled perfectly. Great flavor! Slightly greasy, but well worth it. Could easily serve two.
Total meal cost with tax was $33.24. Quite reasonable for the many restaurants in SLO.
Overall, we had a good dining experience. Clean, friendly and inviting pub atmosphere with excellent food. Well worth your time.
