“Beautiful wedding at Dallidet Gardens”

Dallidet Adobe and Gardens
Reviewed October 23, 2013

What a beautiful hidden gem right in the center of San Luis Obispo! We were in the gardens to attend a late afternoon early evening wedding. It is a fabulous place for a wedding or other function. The grounds are well kept and easily acessible. There were restrooms which were very clean also. It is a quaint quiet retreat if you want to relax for an hour or so.

I got here Sunday at 2pm and it was closed. A couple walked up and said that they have tried to visit several times, but it was always closed even during the hours it's supposed to be open. My daughters and I walked around the perimeter and were able to see parts of the garden and an old street car that was in operation from 1887-1901. The little we were able to see through the gates seemed pretty and peaceful.

We had an hour to kill and was glad that we found this nice little "secret garden" and re-lived the history a bit.... very quaint.

Dallidet Adobe is perhaps tricky to find. It's right in the middle of town in San Luis Obispo, but access is up "secret" streets due to a busy shopping center that was built....perhaps to hide it away!
The Gardens are old and fabulous ~ a retreat from the busy outside world. Volunteers will take you through the grounds and the building; the piano alone is worth the visit to see!
I also really like the bedroom furniture. Go see it!

We almost missed finding this glimpse into old San Luis Obispo, and we're so glad we persevered. The story of the family and the house is an intriguing part of local history, and the exhibition at the S.L.O history museum offered even more. These old adobes are fast disappearing. Don't miss seeing this one.
