“Nice run or easy bike ride”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

This relatively flat dirt road parallels Islay Creek. It is a pleasant run and a beginner mountain bike ride. There is decent birding (breeding Lazuli Buntings, Rufous-crowned Sparrows and Poorwills at dusk) and good wildflowers in the spring and butterflies in the spring and summer. It doesn't have the spectacular views or good climbs of some of the other trails in the park, but it is still very scenic. You can cut across the creek part way out and come back a trail that goes to the back of the campground on the other side of the creek. Watch out for the rancher's truck that sometimes uses this road and the frequent mountain bikes. There is very little access to the creek.

“beautiful trail in Montana d'oro”
Reviewed March 27, 2012

This park is a real find.
The hike is fairly flat and takes you through a beautiful canyon next to a stream.

“Great Trail!”
Reviewed January 21, 2012

We hiked on a day when it was raining and still saw lots of deer and evidence of other animals. Scenery was beautiful and just a little bit of up hill and some loose rocks on the trails. Watch out for snakes and possible Mountain Lions!

“Wide Dirt Road with many other trail connections.”
Reviewed October 2, 2011

I've done the islay creek trail over a dozen times. It's about 4 miles long and connects with the Eastern Boundary Trail, The Manzanita Trail, and a few other trails. Watch for snakes! I am a wildlife photographer and I've seen many a snakes on this trail including rattlesnakes. (See the photos)

Good for Mountain Bikes, Horses, Jogging or just hiking.
