“A gem in the middle of a beautiful downtown”

The Old Mission, as locals call it, is one of the most beautiful missions in California. The setting is fabulous - situated in the middle of the city with San Luis Creek running in front. Beautiful architecture and history.

“A smallish mission, but well worth the visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2012

This mission is now completely surrounded by the modern town, so you can't get the feeling of how it was originally an agricultural center. The church is quite pretty inside, having been nicely painted with floral motifs.

The gardens in what may have been a cloister contain examples of the types of fruit, herbs and vegetables that once were grown here.

The museum consists of a series of connected rooms displaying period furnishings religious vestments, and artwork. Don't miss it.

“Got a free tour of the grounds”

If you like history, check out the mission. I was told that the oldest wall in SLO was behind the Mission on broad street. It is pretty cool.

“Just spend a few minutes”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 27, 2012

Yes's nice to see artifacts over 200 years old, but I didn't think the museum was very informative; very little historical context or discussion of the impact of the mission on the indigenous cultures. The suggested donation is $3.

“Very well kept up Mission, Don't miss.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 25, 2012

Being Catholic, I love to visit the missions. Some are run down and some are very well cared for. This one is very well cared for and it shows. Take the tour it is very informative. It's almost free! If you are Catholic or even not, take in a Sunday mass, makes you feel like you are in the old days, well except for the amplified music!
