“Very well kept up Mission, Don't miss.”
Reviewed October 25, 2012

Being Catholic, I love to visit the missions. Some are run down and some are very well cared for. This one is very well cared for and it shows. Take the tour it is very informative. It's almost free! If you are Catholic or even not, take in a Sunday mass, makes you feel like you are in the old days, well except for the amplified music!

“Somewhat small but interesting”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

On this trip, a friend and I visited four missions. This one is in the middle of the fair-sized town of San Luis Obispo, itself a rather nice place to visit. The front of the mission is quite nice, a little stream runs down the middle of town right in front of the building. Very pretty little area to walk, with a wonderful fountain just below the mission church. There was even a beautiful white egret fishing right there in the center of town, quite undisturged by all the people walking nearby.
The church building itself has colorful vines with birds and flowers painted on the inside walls and both paintings and statues throughout the complex. The museum is small but interesting. No flash photography allowed in the museum, but OK in the church. The grounds were a disappointment, however. Simply a modern rendition of a garden; nothing like it might have been in the days the mission was in use in early California, and everywhere I tried to take pictures in the garden there seemed to be a truck parked and visible, since there is no inner quadrangle, only the garden open to the town streets. Since I adore our California missions, I'm glad I was able to see it, but was a little disappointed that so much is not authentically recreated outside the mission buildings. It is still another of the gems in the long string of California Missions.

“Beautiful church”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

The Mission is located in the heart of SLO, limited parking on weekends, lots of weddings at that time so that is not the best time to go there. The gardens are very well maintained and gorgeous. The rose garden and architecture make this place a great place for the photo buff.

“A free piece of history to spend a few minutes exploring at your own pace.”

Very well kept building and grounds! Definitely worth spending a few minutes walking though. The gardens around the building are worth a few minutes of their own also. We enjoyed seeing the bells in the back garden at eye level.

“A must see in SLO”

Very historic mission downtown, easy to find and great to wander around at your own pace. A quite complete gift shop, also.
