Great place to stay in SLO! We stayed in Le Chantecleer and loved it. I have to say I read a review saying this place used to be a motel with scratchy blankets and still is... THEY ARE WRONG! Our bed was incredibly comfortable and the linens were very cozy. The bathroom is well done. The shower/ tub area has been nicely tiled and the sink is nice as well, not at all like a motel. The towels were big and soft. The room itself was quite big. Now, onto my favorite parts... the wine and appetizers were excellent! We had spicy almonds (really good), apricot pizza (white, no sauce), a cheesy scone and some salami. The patio is very inviting and their indoor area is comfy too. Wines were delicious. Breakfast did not disappoint. They have some things set out for you to help yourself, but they cook your hot dish for you fresh. What I liked the most was the turn down service... they leave truffles on your pillows and have french music playing for you when you get in. Now if it is a romantic trip you're taking, this is extremely nice. Overall, amazing place. The girls working there are unbelievably nice and helpful... excellent service. Oh, and the location, it's walking distance from the main street, incredibly convenient. We didn't use it, but I think there's a street car stop right out front, but it runs odd hours.

We traveled with our teenagers looking at Cal Poly and chose Petit Soleil based on its proximity to the downtown area (10 minute walk) and the amenities it offered. We booked 2 rooms and they were both spacious, clean and beautifully decorated. The beds were really comfortable and though there was no air-conditioning, the ceiling fan was perfect, remote controlled with 3 speeds and very quiet. It is on Monterey St. but we weren't bothered at all by any street noise.

The hospitality could not have been more perfect. The staff went out of its way to accommodate us, from setting aside some appetizers for us when they knew we'd be arriving late, to giving helpful suggestions to our girls regarding Cal Poly and things to do and see downtown, as well as suggesting places to eat. We wanted to be close enough to downtown so that the girls could walk there, eat, go to a movie, and get a feel for the town. It worked out really well. There is also a trolley stop right outside the hotel that goes downtown.

The dining room of the hotel was so nice and comfortable, and the food was great! Breakfast was a wonderful buffet of fresh fruit and freshly baked scones, muffins and a coffee cake that my husband could not get enough of, as well as yogurts and cereals, coffee and teas. We were also offered a choice of 2 hot entrees made to order, and the banana pancakes and quiche were delicious.

Dinner at Giuseppe's downtown, sitting outside on the patio, was wonderful.

We will definitely be back!

While travelling from LA to San Fran we stayed at Petit Soleil and were exceedingly pleased. The B&B is charming and its staff goes out of their way to assist with any and all aspects of your trip from recommending restaurants, wineries and local shops to assistiang with obtaining tickets to Hearst Castle on our way north. Thank you for a lovely trip.

Definitely a mom & pop affair. Very homey and warm. My room was the Pierrot (warning: if you have a phobia of clowns, do not stay in this room!) It is on the small side, with a bed, wardrobe, a bath with shower, heater and ceiling fan. The door and window opens right to the courtyard where people are milling about - so make sure you're decent or draw the curtains. On my first shower, the water went from hot to scalding hot. Picture me hopping in and out of the stream to avoid getting burned! At one point, the lever on the shower detached! Next day, it worked fine. The breakfast fare was good, their afternoon wine and hors d'oeuvres are great, and the little truffle you get on your bed at night are a great touch. A little bit away from downtown (we had to catch the trolley to the farmers market, but it was walkable.) The staff is as charming as can be.

It is definitely not our taste, I admit it. We stayed one night at the Herbes de Provence room (queen size): lavender everywhere, an indigestion of pastel colors which can result quite nauseating, all the more if you are european, like we are, and have actually visited the real Provence. The overall impression is that of an excess of artificiality, it all seems built by someone who loves France so much she thinks that its atmosphere can be rebuilt in San Luis Obispo just like that. I disagree.
Apart from that, our room and bathroom were very clean and the staff was very cordial.
